Whatever you think about White as a runner his exit from the Bucs highlights what a tough business this is. He needed this year to be a good year. He even had an opportunity because Irving went down, but so did a bunch of the line and the creative run plays and the team overall.
I feel like he didn't have much of an opportunity with them cycling in Tucker as much as they did. Didn't utilize his pass catching ability as an extension of the run game at all.
Totally agree BChavez8
PFF had White as the highest graded RB for the Bucs.
Pff doesn't take into account situational football..I like white but he's not better than Bucky.
I'll miss him tho
Again, the grades are cumulative. It has nothing to do with situational football. Bucky missed a shitload of time, so he’s not going to have as high of a grade as someone who played (well) all year.
He's a good player and wish him luck. I think we should try again at rb. We could find someone who is better but it's not like guys like white grow on trees. As we see it's not as easy a position as carrying the rock all the time. He did everything pretty well and that has value.

You're not understanding. The grades are cumulative yes but if a player gets a third and 20 draw for 12 yards that's gonna inflate his grade due to the situation.
That's far different than running out the clock for example

What does any of that have to do with White being graded higher than Bucky?
White should be better than Tucker or Irving at this point in his career but I wouldn't put all the eggs in his basket at this point.
Between Irving, Tucker and J. Williams the Bucs have their core RB trio and need to add another via free agency or the draft. Own Wright was already signed to a futures contract but really no point throwing money to White at this point.

Always so obtuse. He was our third down back. He had those off balance type runs in situational downs.
Tucker did all the short yardage.
Bucky took all the shit runs...
I'm not hating on White I like him and defend him plenty. But he's our third best pure runner and our second best all around back.

He wasn’t the third down back for the seven games Bucky was injured. White played over 50% of the total offensive snaps this season. Bucky was at 37%.

I get that. But you’ve displayed repeatedly that you don’t know and/or understand how PFF’s grading works. White having a higher grade doesn’t mean they are saying he’s better than Bucky. It’s more of a function of White playing more and playing well when he was in there. Whereas, Bucky was not as good as he was last year. Some of that was injury related, but that lesser play is still going to reflect in that grade.
Do you at least agree that Bucky did not perform as well as he did last season?
Perform or produce? Produce of course. Perform, it depends if he was missing lanes... PFF is not an exact science so I'm usually quite skeptical of their voodoo.
But I understand your point...
Short memories but White once upon a time was given those shit up the gut runs with Lefty's offense. But White did his best he could with whatever he was asked so I can not complain about him or his character. The problem is the Bucs should not tie up cap space for a situational runner or third down specialist. That cap space is better used to upgrade at TE1.

I think some here suggested that Lefty held White back, so he was, in their view, a clear RB1 etc going forward. If you watched him though and you knew something about his background (idolized LeVeon Bell) and just his stature, he was always better suited for the 3rd down role, especially because he was such an incredible pass catcher.
The biggest loss with White is that beyond being a very good player in a very important role he was also a tremendous teammate for most of his time here. I was surprised (and disappointed) to read about the change in him this season.
White is a better Michael Pittman in every single way so I have no complaints about him. With Pittman there were question if Pittman was a RB1 but the debate is pointless because you always need a stable of backs ready to go as this season showed.
As a team the Bucs rushed for 1900+ yards total so it was a collective effort. Total team yards per average was 4.1 and that is without Mauch and Bredeson for stretches of time. Play calling was a factor too but in the end the Bucs don't really need to throw money at White as third down backs are often on free agency wire ready to pick up. Even Gruden understood this and why he was willing to sign veteran RBs to be third down backs often.
