@alldaway - 💯 This is what I’ve been saying since last year. Everyone was saying Hall and Hicks will replace him. Nope, not even close.
Kancey and Vea are obvious starters. Logan Hall and Gaines will probably compete for the other position and my heart tells me Hall edges out. Gaines is a better NT rotational piece than starter. I think we're fine at DL for the first time in a long time. Question remains can Kancey and Hall hold up at the POA? We'll see. I think that could be a legitimate concern this fall. Hall put on weight that's great but he's never been known to be great at POA vs the run. If we can't stop the run, this defense will be forced to blitz (leaving the secondary out to dry) and we'll be picking top 10.
With the re-signing of Gholston I think that Gholston will split reps with Hall at 5 tech. Gaines/Vea/Kancey will hold down the interior.
Senat, O'Connor, Greene, and Previlon are competing for the last 1-2 spots.
As the season moves along don’t be surprised to see Hall getting less and less reps. Hopefully he’s worked on his pad level, because it doesn’t matter how much weight he’s gained if he doesn’t play with good technique. Gaines will play a lot more than everyone realizes. He can do a lot of different things.
That is true that with long players knee bend and leverage is going to be an issue for Hall to overcome. I think the Bucs coaches recognize this and watching Gholston play may another may help out Hall. But Gaines isn't going to be play a lot of 5 tech in place of Hall IMO. I think Gaines is here to help rotate at UT and NT because Vea doesn't play a high snap count and Kancey is a rookie.
So my prediction is that Hall splits reps with Gholston or even O'Connor.
Kancey , Vea and Hall
@alldaway - I hope you guys are right. I just don’t see it with Logan. But Gaines will see time in other spots as he did in LA.
TB will move them around as Vea will play some UT and I am sure Gaines/Kancey will kick out at 5 tech. Gholston will see time on the inside at NT or UT in 3rd and long or short yardage situations. So they will all move around.
I am not confident that the team is going to hand Hall a starting spot outright which is why Gholston is back for another year. Plus, O'Connor beefed up along with Hall, so even O'Connor may see more playing time as well.
