What? I'm not following. So the fact that the starters are sitting in the preseason has something to do with Bowles's perception of the talent level on his team? The Bucs leadership doesn’t think the team is as talented as some fans do
As for the Jets, I doubt Quinnen Williams or Aaron Rodgers will see a lot of snaps, or any of the other core starters. We'll see. That's all they need is a couple injuries to important players to derail a Superbowl run. Lets see what actually happens in the game before you start judging about how much players are playing. I'm just glad we aren't playing the Jets this year for real. I'm happy to watch Rodgers work from afar.
Bowles knows his seat is red hot.
Anything short of a playoff appearance/run and he’s gone. He knows it.
He won’t risk any of his starters getting injured in the preseason. He’s going to play it as safe as possible.

maybe not that hot, but yes still hot so it’s not hard to imagine him thinking he’s going to win or lose on his own terms not someone else’s terms like last year.

I am not so sure. We are in agreement that the Bucs have talent but it is top heavy which is no different than the early Dungy era where the Bucs had veteran star players and basically not much depth because that is how Rich McKay structured the team with the salary cap.
I mean look at the Bucs defensive front seven which compares well to most of the NFC and the rest of the NFL. Then look at the Bucs starting DB duo of Davis and Dean which compares well with other NFC teams. Then you have the safety tandem of Winfield and Neal.
On offense the Bucs WR core is obviously the strength. Big question marks are at RB right side of the OL and QB. But to say that Mayfield/Trask lack talent isn't true. White is a very talented RB and Mauch was drafted because of his upside.
The only true area where the Bucs may lack talent and depth is TE. But we shall see if Otton can ascend as an NFL player as he has potential talent to be more than what he has shown thus far.
So they're holding back the starters in the preseason because they suck? C'mon man! My view is avoiding injuries and making sure they're available to play in September. That said, I agree with those posters who believe the starters need to get some playing time due to all the off-season changes. Not so much on the defensive side of the ball. On offense. New OC. New scheme. New plays. New QBs. Otherwise, they will not hit the ground running. Thye cannot afford to average 18 points a game this season. Ironic they scored 17 on Friday night.
Just my $0.02.
Not because they suck lol. Because they understand the outsized impact of an injury to a starter.
just one way to interpret the move. May be wrong.
Bowles own comments show he understands players need game conditions to be ready. He’s still choosing to sit them
I'm really concerned with these 2 hand touch practices too... Their bodies need to be prepared for the contact. I sure hope they play the preseason games. I mean RWhite went off the field on Sunday with like barely any contact lol. Injuries happen. Playing it safe with a few key guys is one thing, but my gosh. If they go into the season not game ready they will get stomped and/or injured at that. Guess will see how this pans out.
Theres an article on JBF about the Bucs going a different direction with practice than most teams to minimize injury
CLEARLY AVOIDING INJURY IS PART OF THE PLAN:
"[Bowles] said he had gathered nutritionists, trainers, doctors and all sorts of folks and determined the three-practices-and-a-day-off format for camp was the best way to prevent injuries.
Research showed players suffered a lot of their training camp injuries on the fourth straight day of practice or longer, Bowels said.
So far, it seems like it’s been a success. With the exception of rookie defensive tackle Calijah Kancey’s calf injury in a non-contact position drill running around tackling dummies, the Bucs have been rather free of major injuries."
Because they understand the outsized impact of an injury to a starter.
That, and they know they aren't too deep at a lot of positions.

yes, agreed. That is what I meant by outsized. The drop off is substantial because of limited depth and the impact that someone like Vea or Evans has on their unit if lost. Their impact probably goes beyond the player for player difference.

Based on this football savant's logic, here is the list of NFL Head Coaches that don't think their talent level are all that:
Sean McDermott
John Harbaugh
Pete Carroll
Mike McCarthy
Sean McVay
Kyle Shanahan
Nick Siriani
Josh McDaniels
Kevin O'Connell
Zac Taylor
Dan Campbell
Brian Daboll
Mike McDaniels
Robert Saleh
Brandon Staley
Arthur Smith
Suck for these teams, as a lot of them have Superbowl aspirations. But the same savant saying the OC's play selection in preseason means something is the same dingleberry putting this nonsense forward. He knows his stuff.
