Leo continues to cement his rep as an idiot. While I agree with the premise -- to a certain extent at least -- the "reasons" he gives are just flat out stupid.
Agree. Not long ago, I was sayin hell no to a WR early, but with all this MikeWill stuff floating around, its not so farfetched now.

As doc says, it's not so much the premise of maybe not drafting a WR at #7 but it's the reasons given that make no sense. Because he doesn't think Glennon can throw him the ball? That's just stupid.
Watkins isn't an early first rounder. Hopkins is better than Watkins and he was picked very late in the first.

Watkins is an amazing receiver who gives the Bucs something that haven't had in a long time if ever. He is a legit take to the house on every play kind of receiver. Certainly there are no guarantees, for any draft pick for that matter, but in Mobile scouts raved about this guy, and some said after the Combine he may a Top 5 guy. We will see. That Orange Bowl performance was incredible. Guy was gassed, banged up but played an incredible game. A few hours before that game Leo was saying he isn't any different than Mike Williams. I almost fell out of my recliner. Leo is entitled to his opinion, but so am, I and I think he is dead wrong on this one. But we can come back a year from now and see who was right or wrong.

Yup. Honestly, I think he's the 2nd best football player in the draft. Tackles, QBs and Pass Rushers are more valuable, of course. But Watkins is a better WR than these other guys are at their respective position.
I would love another great receiver here, and if he is the BPA, then he is the BPA. For Leo to say he might be the BPA for one team but not for another, shows no understanding of how BPA works. Sure, each team has particular attributes they look for, but Leo doesn't really bang on Sammy's attributes as much as the pieces the Bucs already have. What an obvious backhand smack to Glennon. If we draft Watkins, I'll be happy for sure. I just hope we get the pieces we need on the Oline and pass rush as well, whether through the draft or FA.
I wouldn't draft him because he is a slot WR. Not the kind of player you want with the no.7 overall pick. He may end up being a good NFL WR but to be drafted no.7 he is a bit small as well. The reasoning that they use in the article is off. They said Glennon can't use 3 great receivers and that is why you should not draft him. As if we are going to build the offense around Mike Glennon? ??? Get real. You build it based on the assumption that you are going to have a good QB. Whether Glennon is that guy remains to be seen.
Tell me you did not just call Sammy Watkins small TELL ME YOU DID NOT JUST SAY THAT.... If you truly believe that then idk what to think but 6'1 is not small.....
I guess it depends on what you are looking for. I want a guy who fits the 2014 pro game. Of the top-10 TD reception leaders in the NFL last year, none were as small as Watkins. Zero. Go to the top 20 and you have two guys under 6'2".Wes Welker and DeSean Jackson. Go to the top 30. Out of the top 30 TD catchers last year 4 were 6'1" or shorter. Welker, Jackson, Antonio Brown and Boldin. It's a new world. Three of the top 6 td leaders are TE'S including 2 of the top 3. Nine of the top 30 are TE'S. This is not the day and age where you should be drafting a 6'1" receiver in the top 10 at all. If Sammy Watkins doesn't run a sub 4.4 40 I would not touch him in the top 20. Because his chances of being on the top of one of those lists are miniscule. It's 2014. I have six other receivers/TE'S rated ahead of Watkins. If he runs a sub 4.4 40 he may move up slightly.
He is looking like he has the potential to be a really good NFL player. But for the Bucs, too many holes to fill. Just drafting Sammy will not cure all ill's. Hopefully, they trade the #7 pick to somebody that is really crazy about Sammie. And drop down a bit, and get a draft pick or 2 in the deal..

I'm seriously hoping we draft down and scoop up some extra picks, but I can't deny our offense needs weapons. Dougie, James, and Demps all coming back from injury should help, but getting Sammie wouldn't disappoint me.
Watkins is an impressive player. I would not be upset to see him drafted by TB. I don't care if he is a slot receiver he makes the team better. He makes VJ and Williams better too. Makes Glennon better. The offense needs another option to go to. I don't care about who gets the ball the most on that offense. Just give it to the open guy. It shouldn't be about numbers but about winning.
Trade Mike Williams

Pass rush has to be their #1 priority. WR? Not so much. Unless MikeWill totally implodes between now and the draft.
Mike Glennon can't use 3 WR sets? Well damn, why bother upgrading his weapons at all? * rolling my eyes*Watkins is the 2nd best player in the ENTIRE draft. You take him at 7, no questions asked.
This article is just plain dumb. VJAX and Williams are both solid but look what happened when we lost one of them. A lot of teams have the philosophy that you can never have too many good DBs. Well, I think that that you can never have too many good WRs as well. LEO writes all the good attributes that Watkins has and then comes to the conclusion that he's not good. It just makes no sense. I think Watkins is going to be a top pick and I wouldn't be surprised if he's taken ahead of #7 but if he is available he would be a solid addition. I still think we should trade back multiple times but if we picked Watkins at #7 I would be excited. LEO is LAME-0
Just a horrible article.
