are we one player away from having the talent to compete for a NFC Championship victory/SuperBowl appearance?

Tampa can compete with any team right now.  This weekend will be very telling.  No running back this season has cracked the 50 yard mark on the Patriot defense and their QB is very savy hanging in the pocket but can also crack you with his athleticism.  Having a bye to prep, I suspect Bowles will have something for Maye but I do think it's going to be a very defensive, low scoring game.

I actually think the devastating losses at o-line and WR1 & WR2 - may have caused Licht to re-assess our ability to compete for a Super Bowl THIS season.

I could be wrong, only have to wait one more day to see what Licht actually thinks.

But my question to the board is: are we one player away from having the talent to compete for a NFC Championship victory/SuperBowl appearance? Thats what you hope to gain from a mid-season trade, you don’t try adding an Edge, a WR1/2, and a RT.

Maybe those guys come back quickly and Licht knows this- so he’s pulling off a complicated trade - but I don’t get that vibe though. Anyone else get that vibe?

i mean i agree with the sentiment of Licht not being likely to make a trade due to (1) he very rarely does in season trades and (2) injury plagued year might make us not go all in

that being said, after seeing teams like Detroit and Green Bay lose to the Vikings and Panthers at home; while us typically having the Eagles number; AND already beating the Seahawks and 49ers; i am not sure why a Buc Fan would feel negative about our 6-2 start which matches the days of 2020 and 2021 season Tom Brady years.

to me, it looks like Evans has a chance to return before the playoffs so that is room for optimism.  This week will be telling in terms of Bucky, Godwin, and Goedeke.  Just how serious are those injuries.  If they are able to play this week, boy, that should give us a jolt of energy.  If not, yikes!  We will need some clarity as to what the heck is going on there.

If those 3 guys come back, and Mike Evans returns for the playoff run; why would we not think we have a chance to win the Super Bowl?

i am as real and negative as they come when it comes to my fan hood but there's alot to be excited about with this current team.  Sure, the last 2 weeks have looked miserable on offense, but i'd like to think of our offense as the Seahawks/49ers games and if we can return to that, typically with our horses healthy again; the sky is the limit man.

rumor has it Bengals want a 1st round pick for Trey Hendrickson ahead of the deadline

guy is coming off back to back 17.5 sack seasons

has just 4 sacks in 7 games so far this season.

guy is 30 years old and due to become a free agent in 2026

so the question becomes, would you do this trade under the assumption that we would be able to re-up him to a 3-4 year deal?  Also, what would annual value be?  $20M?  $25M?

an interesting age because we have seen other greats of our own fall off at age 32 season like JPP and Shaq; Simeon Rice as well

the "wanting us to win" has me leaning towards going for it, but the age factor scares me a bit.

If Licht was going to bring somebody in, it would have made sense to do it last week so the player would have time to learn the system.  That's why I highly doubt there will be any trades by the Bucs before the deadline.

Ive been optimistic all season, but to not factor in some of the injuries - with no real idea of when they will be back. You have to assume that the horses aren’t coming back - at this point. Because lacking any information, I used worse case scenario.

If we were to get Goedeke, CG & Bucky back after the bye…shift the line a bit, we might just see an amazing performance over the next 3 (tough) games - 1 to possibly 2 wins would make me go optimistic.

However, we have heard nothing positive - and tomorrow is the trade deadline and there have been zero moves… as TraskForce mentioned, if we haven’t struck a deal, yet, it’s not likely we’re doing a trade for an EDGE.

Maybe the lack of trade for a RT means we’ll be getting Geodeke back - but that doesn’t mean he’ll be back this week, or in the next few games.

I still think we can win the games after these 3 tough ones - BUT those games against The Panthers sure don’t look like gimme’s anymore. …and who knows what we’ll see against the schizo dirt birds?

If we do NOT get Goedeke back - well then that turns me NOT optimistic. Except in the passing game, Bucky struggled running the ball before his injuries. What’s up with CG’s fibula? If he comes back, is he ready, or is he just a decoy?

Lots of questions. I get being optimistic - but we’re now in the 2nd half of the season and we have waaay too many question marks and zero answers. Could be we’re sandbagging - but that’s a long shot, and that’s just hopium.

One more point: Baker was beaten senseless, and then he went to Detroit. He can’t keep taking that kind of punishment. SOMETHING has to change. Can’t just rest for a week and hope for the best.

Let’s see what happens. For now, let’s just say, for now, I’m keeping my powder dry.

The Goedeke news gives me a little optimism - one key strategic piece.

I'd rather not waste the draft capital, unless we can make a swing for a starting-caliber ILB or IOL for a 5th or later.

Have too many needs to address in the draft.

id prefer a 2nd and a third in 2027. That’d get it done I betcha. And yep I’d resign him to a 3-4 year deal. Signing reddick isn’t looking good.

Most of the trade talk had been about an edge rusher.  It seems most agree that is unlikely now, but it might have bene unlikely always:

"Tampa Bay has seven players with two or more sacks recorded on the year. And in total, there’s been at least 15 players that have recorded at least a half a sack. The Bucs don’t necessarily do it the traditional way of just lining up four or five pass rushers and getting after the quarterback. They will at times, but it’s the blitz schemes orchestrated Todd Bowles that confuses quarterbacks and often leads to half of the team’s sacks."

Tampa Bay had just 18 takeaways last year and a minus-6 turnover differential. This year they already have 12 takeaways and a plus-7 differential, which is good for fourth in the entire league."

If Goedeke and Bucky come back next week healthy, and Baker and Egbuka look like they did pre-injuries, then I’ll be feeling confident.

None of this will be known until we play the Patriots on Sunday though. We’re not going to get any honest injury updates from Bowles and company this week other than the standard “they’re improving day by day” crap.

Interior OL will be death of this team. Needed two guards. Rams game will be ugly.

I don't know that Licht will ever be the GM who goes all in in a particular year.  He did with Brady and Gronk. He pushed money down the line and had to take the hit later.  The Bucs have finally climbed out of that hole.  It was worth it because we won the Superbowl, but I don't think Licht is ready to go down that path again now or ever.  I think he's happy just buidling through the draft year after year, and going very light n
