Saint traded a solid tackle to chargers for a late pick
I wonder if they would have done that with us or if they'd say fuck off because of division rivalry.
I think the division rivalry aspect outweighs any potential trade.Saint traded a solid tackle to chargers for a late pick

Unless you’re Cleveland.
light sprinkling of low budget FAs.I don't know that Licht will ever be the GM who goes all in in a particular year. He did with Brady and Gronk. He pushed money down the line and had to take the hit later. The Bucs have finally climbed out of that hole. It was worth it because we won the Superbowl, but I don't think Licht is ready to go down that path again now or ever. I think he's happy just buidling through the draft year after year, and going very light n
Licht is never going "all in" again IMO. This would have been a good year to do it, but he watched as other teams took their shot. He saved his precious draft picks, and he'll have another good draft next year I'm sure. But will this strategy ever get us to another Superbowl?

as much as I wish we addressed 1 of iol edge or ilb I don’t see why we can’t win this year.
mauch and Kancey are missed but most our other key pieces will be back at some point.
But will this strategy ever get us to another Superbowl?
If this team is relatively healthy most here seem to see it as a SB team, so I think that means "yes."

well, the strategy is a good one but we also may have to pull off some premier free agent signings to bridge the gap.
it seems the strategy has been retaining our own stars which makes sense and that is product of drafting well so that's definitely a must but might be a piece or two short; think about when Eagles who acquired AJ Brown and Saquan Barkley over the last few years.
if you think about the Baker era, who were our biggest non tampa free agent signings? Baker was one for a 1 year, 4M deal. Hell, does Chase McLaughin count as premier? Ben Bredeson?
Haason Reddick was a splash move and i'd argue the first one in the Baker era. Not entirely putting up the sack production in his hey day but still an upgrade. So i imagine Licht making moves like that. Judging by who went at the deadline, can't say i disagree with Licht holding tight. It's not like a premier edge rusher went.

Why?
We’re out our WR1 and WR4 for the year.
Our WR2 is out for who knows when and is most likely never going to be the same.
Our RG is gone for the year and RT is probably out another 2-3 weeks.
RB1 is out for who knows when.
ILB is a massive liability next to LVD (who’s clearly at the end of his career).
What exactly was the “all in” move here?
It's not like a premier edge rusher went
And as much as everyone talks about needing this type of player, I dont think Licht and, most importantly, Bowles agree.
I think they view it as more of a luxury because Bowles generates pressure in other ways. They probably saw Reddick as hopefully something like the Barrett move to match with JPP (Diaby) on the other side and even without that really working out so far (Diaby is on a good track) the Bucs are winning and part of that is PRESSURE and turnovers.
In some ways, the "premier edge rusher" is like the "easy button" for fan angst. Its sort of an (unrealistic) symbol for change to win it all. Who was the top edge rusher at the deadline and what did it cost?
"Premier edge rusher" MIGHT BE the way to a SB, but there is very little about Bowles and Licht that suggest they agree. Licht signed Barrett to a one year 5 million prove it deal. Reddick is that plus inflation. Licht traded a 3rd for for JPP. Diaby was a 3rd round pick.
In 2020 BOTH GUYS had good years but DOWN from their best years. The team had 48 sacks that season . . . 9 of which came from the MLB . . . 20+ from everyone else.
Just describing whether its likely Licht/Bowles see "premier edge rusher" as something worth a couple 1st round picks . . if such a trade opportunity even existed.
SR's take
Understand that to GM Jason Licht a 3rd-rounder is Tykee Smith, Jalen McMillan or Jacob Parrish. A 4th-round pick is Bucky Irving or Caden Otton. A 5th-rounder is Zyon McCollum, SirVocea Dennis or Elijah Roberts. Heck, even a 7th-rounder is Tez Johnson. No #Bucs trades today.

being able to pressure the QB with just rushing 4 is pivotal. See how we dominated the Chiefs offensive line in the Superbowl.
now listen, we both agree no one was to be had at the deadline but having a guy that can consistently get to the QB is a huge asset
And while i like Licht, can't say he knows how to construct a team to win a Superbowl. He had Tom Brady. That is a huge disclaimer. How has he done without Tom Brady? Well...this is looking like it could be his best year as 10 wins was the previous mark.
so while Licht is the man and i am enjoying this ride, if we have another 1 and done playoff performance, perhaps, we need something else.
now to others points, injuries are killing us this year but if we get Evans, Godwin, Bucky, and Goedeke back....i dont see that excuse come January.

notice you didn't mean Roberto Aguayo or Kyle Trask in the second round!
and yeah, i wouldn't have been happy with Jaelen Phillips for a third....bad trade.

That was SR. There is a JQ article today. He discusses how other teams' trades may impact the Bucs and in a round about way that brought up what the Cowboys "GM" has done with his trades:
"As an aside, the Cowboys have effectively traded Micah Parsons, Mazi Smith and a 2026 2nd round pick for Kenny Clark, Quinnen Williams and a first-round pick. They are paying Clark and Williams $88.75 million from 2026-2027 whereas the Packers are paying Parsons $86.007 million over the same time period. Plus, Green Bay has Parsons under contract for an additional two seasons. The Cowboys have given up incredible value in this entire process and lost half a season in the process. Incredible stuff from Jones."
LOL. I guess things could be much worse than Licht.
This would have been a good year to do it, but he watched as other teams took their shot.

Would you trade a 1st, 2nd and say Kancey for Quinnen Williams who's under contract through 2027? That's the one trade I would have liked to see, although it's a not an "all in" trade.
I wouldn't trade a 4th and 6th rounder for rental Jakobi Meyers who is on the last year of his deal. That's a hefty price the Jags paid. I wonder if that was Coen's call or higher up. Are the Jags Superbowl contenders now?
I would have liked to see a Day 3 for an OG. Perhaps that deal wasn't there to be made.
But my point was more a general one. The local media types want to say that Licht is on the phones calling around the league blah blah. He may be chatting up a storm, but mainly window shopping IMO. Is he really in the market to pull off a trade? Don't think so. He'll never be dealing picks for rental players. He'll never be saying "This is the year! Let me go out and spend some picks and push some cap money into the future and go all in this year and deal with the consequences later." He loves his picks too much and the free agent and trade acquisitions he doesn't love that much. I'm not saying he should or shouldn't. Its just a reality. The after effects of the Brady era have been too much. Once is enough. Licht will never "go all in" again.
He's been a GM for almost 12 years, started his career in 1996 - 30 years. How long do you think he'll be in the GM position? Perhaps ten years max but more likely five or six before he moves to an executive position with less daily attention to scouting etc. In that time will he want to undergo another two year belt tightening period? I just don't think so. I could be wrong of course. Licht doesn't follow anybody's playbook. Just my gut feeling.Licht will never "go all in" again.
never is a strong word!
