Last summer, it was reported by Jameis's father, Antonor Winston that Jameis would not declare after the 2014 season. "Winston told AL.com his family plans on Jameis playing three seasons at Florida State. 'We want Jameis to succeed with one more year in baseball and two more years in football,' he said. 'We've never strayed from our plan that he is going to be in college until he gets that degree.'" ( http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2014/06/antonor_winston_feels_his_son.html#incart_related_stories) Jameis responded to his father's comments "I'm not really worried about that...I'm just focusing on the season right now, because this year is going to be one to remember." However, he did give a "hint" that he may be in agreement with his family's plan, stating that education is "very important to me. I was always raised as a student first and an athlete second," Winston said. "I think that's the main purpose in college. Some athletes lose that perspective. It's about being a student-athlete, and not just getting that easy money and going to the league. Even if kids leave early, I would want them to come back and get that degree."( http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000364477/article/jameis-winston-hints-about-future-at-florida-state) It will be interesting to see if the Winston family in fact "stays with the plan." Winston has nothing to lose if he decides to stay, and actually has a lot to gain. Bucky Brooks gave four good reasons why staying would benefit Winston:1. College graduates play longer and enjoy more success in the NFL. 2. The additional collegiate starts will ease his transition to the NFL. 3. Staying in college will allow Winston to repair his reputation. 4. Another season of baseball could give Winston significant leverage down the road.
