I've been lurking awhile long time fan and with my first post i would like to get everyone's thoughts on how Jameis has played his first three years and do you think he will play better and finally lead this team to the postseason.
I also am interested in how you think Jameis stacks up to Mariota so far after three seasons.
The 2015 draft featured Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota and back then most of the experts were saying Winston was the most pro ready and likely to succeed.
Well after three full seasons i was curious what most of the fanbase thinks.
Is anyone doubting Jameis at all or wondering what if????
Below i put a list of accomplishments of both players. I wanted to show where each broke NFL records instead of simply team or franchise ones.
Both Tampa Bay and Tennessee were in shambles in 2015 with expectations for both QB's to pull their organizations out of the hole and on the right path again.
Jameis led the Bucs to 6-10, 9-7 and 5-11 records but what hurt Jameis and the Bucs in 2017 was the 5-11 mark should've been better but they kept losing by a hair losing six games by 5 points or less.
Meanwhile Mariota led Titans to a 7-1 record in games decided by 3 points or less their last two seasons. The .875 winning % in games decided by 3 or fewer points during that stretch is tied with Steelers for the best in the league.
Also Mariota led the Titans to a better record every year in each of his first three seasons leading his team to 3-13, 9-7 (no playoffs), 9-7 (playoff berth wild card win)
During his wild card playoff game at Kansas City, Mariota became the first QB in NFL playoff history to catch his own pass for a touchdown and was the first player to have both a receiving and passing touchdown in a playoff game.
Thats not all though Mariota led the biggest NFL road playoff comeback win ever by a QB at Kansas City coming back from 18 down winning 22-21.
Mariota led the Titans to the playoffs after a long absence but the frustrating thing is while Mariota did so Winston in his first three seasons was not able to lead the Bucs to the postseason and so the Bucs extended their playoff drought to 11 years no postseason since 2007.
Also another irritating thing is while Winston ultimately lost six games that were all by 5 points or less on the flipside Mariota led the NFL with five 4th quarter comebacks and game winning drives the most of any NFL QB in 2017.
Don't even get me started on the first game that Winston/Mariota ever played where Mariota and the Titans won 42-14 that was a long day.
Mariota set all kinds of records a perfect passer rating of 158.3, making him the first quarterback in NFL history to attain a perfect passer rating in his first regular season game. Mariota became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw four touchdown passes in the first half of his NFL debut. He is also the youngest quarterback to reach the perfect passer rating in his first game as well.
On November 22, 2015, against the Philadelphia Eagles, Jameis Winston tied an NFL rookie record with five touchdown passes and also became the third rookie quarterback to pass over 4,000 yards in a season.
Jameis was selected to his first Pro Bowl game making him the first rookie quarterback in Buccaneers' history to be selected so he wasn;t off to too bad of a start but when i look at Mariota i was amazed at all the things he was achieving i thought he would just ouright be a bust but i was dead wrong.
There were other accomplishments.....
In Mariota's first two seasons he was the first QB in modern NFL history with 6 games containing four-TD performances and had 9 games with 100 passer rating/multiple TD’s only Dan Marino,Russell Wilson and Kurt Warner had more in their first 2 seasons at QB.
Mariota also had 4 games with three or more touchdowns tied Peyton Manning (1998) as the most ever by a rookie QB.
Against Jacksonville his rookie year Mariota was the first player NFL history with 250+ pass yds, 100+ rush yds & 3 TD passes in a game and also had a 87 yard run for a TD which was one of the longest runs by a QB in NFL history and the longest run of any player including a RB for the entire 2015 season.
Mariota became the first NFL player since Walter Payton in the 1983 season to pass for a touchdown, rush for a touchdown and catch a touchdown pass of at least 40 yards.
Mariota was awarded AFC Player of the Week honors for Week One and Week Nine For 2015 Season,AFC Player of the Week for Week Ten For 2016 Season,AFC Offensive Player of the Month for November 2016.
Although through all of this i know i'm not the only one to still think we got the right guy. Jameis is due for a breakthrough.
Jameis has achieved plenty as well......
Jameis has the most passing touchdowns in a single game by a rookie quarterback with 5 (tied with Ray Buivid, Matthew Stafford, and Deshaun Watson)
Most passing touchdowns by a rookie quarterback in one half with 4 (tied with Marcus Mariota and Deshaun Watson)
Most seasons of passing for 4000 yards to begin a career
Youngest player to pass for 4,000 yards
Youngest player to pass for 40 touchdowns
Most touchdown passes before 24th birthday: 69
2015 Pro Bowl
Pepsi NFL Rookie Of The Year 2015
Well i don't know guys what do you think do we have the better QB?
I definitely want to see Jameis improve and lead the team to better things but like i said earlier all the stuff that Mariota has achieved i honestly didnt expect it at all. I thought he would be an outright bust but i have questioned myself at times wondering did we get the right guy.
Any thoughts heading into the future?
