These Chicago Bears Could Be Cut Or Traded In 2016 by Erik Lambert 4h ago Bears_Zps1F93Gu7D.jpgThe Chicago Bears could do another serious housecleaning in 2016.Several veteran players are making a lot of money on their roster, and it could be argued they haven’t earned their pay.  With a chance to send their salary cap space into the stratosphere, who are the names fans should watch as possible cut or trade candidates?Jermon BushrodCap Hit:  $8.7 millionCap Relief If Cut:  $4.3 millionTrade Value:  6th to 7th roundThe fact that Charles Leno Jr., a former seventh round pick has played well enough for the Bears to not want Jermon Bushrod back in the lineup pretty much puts the writing on the wall.  He’s going deeper into his 30s, suffers from injury issues and is getting much too expensive.  It’s unlikely another team makes a trade unless they’re desperate enough for tackle help.  Expect Bushrod to get cut unless he’s willing to come back on a reduced salary.Bears2_Zpshspmf4Px.jpgLamarr HoustonCap Hit:  $6.99 millionCap Relief If Cut:  $4.02 millionTrade Value:  5th to 6th roundOf all the players on this list, ironically it may be Lamarr Houston who has done enough to save his job.  After just one sack in 2014, it looked like he was on borrowed time.  Then Jared Allen was traded and he got another chance to get on the field.  He has five sacks in the past six games and has really become one of the driving forces behind their defensive resurgence.  If he keeps it up he’ll likely be safe, but failing to do so might put him in jeopardy.Bears3_Zpshwwtksc0.JpgMartellus BennettCap Hit:  $6.31 millionCap Relief If Cut:  $5.185 millionTrade Value:  4th to 5th roundRumors continue to swirl around Martellus Bennett and the idea he has some sort of schism with the Bears brass regarding money, passes thrown his way or both.  Several close to the situation deny that’s true.  What is true though is that Bennett is not the player he was last year.  His production is down and he’s suffering through injuries.  If even part of these rumors are true, then it’s hard to imagine Chicago keeping him around another year.Bears4_Zpsm4Yksec3.JpgAntrel RolleCap Hit:  $3 millionCap Relief If Cut:  $3 millionTrade Value:  NegligibleHe was signed with all the good intentions:  experience, leadership, winning pedigree.  However, Antrel Rolle also came with another tag.  He’s old.  The safety is set to turn 33 on December 16 and there are signs his body can no longer handle the physical demands of pro football.  There is zero cap concerns if the Bears did choose to cut him, so unless he is able to get back from a lingering knee injury and finish strong he could be out.Bears5_Zpszthuwmha.jpgWillie YoungCap Hit:  $3.166 millionCap Relief If Cut:  $2.5 millionTrade Value:  4th to 5th roundLike Houston, Willie Young has taken advantage of a second chance.  After recovering from a torn Achilles and the exit of Jared Allen via trade, Young has become one of their most reliable pass rushers.  Despite barely playing through the first month of the season he has still managed to collect three sacks, an interception and 24 quarterback pressures.  If the team doesn’t feel he can fit long-term at outside linebacker, his trade value should generate interest.Bears6_Zpsgj9Mpuhr.jpgRobbie GouldCap Hit:  $4.1 millionCap Relief If Cut:  $2.9 millionTrade Value:  6th or 7th roundThanks to the recent rule changes to the extra point, good kickers are in much higher demand.  That makes a veteran like Robbie Gould, who has proven accuracy, a bit more valuable.  Of course that would mean keeping him is a way to go but his contract is pretty expensive for a kicker.  While it’s chump change compared to other players, the possibility is there to move on from in.  Still, the only way that probably happens is via trade.link
