JDub, the problem is that 'greatness' isn't always apparent. When it is, it's usually very, very evident, like with Luck, but look at some of the other 'elite' quarterbacks: Brees, drafted (I think) in the 2nd round, cut by the Chargers after they picked Rivers in the 1st.Brady: drafted 6th round. His greatness was not apparently seen by anyone.Manning, Payton: drafted 1st, but the Colts struggled with the choice between him and Leaf.Luck: drafted 1st overall - generally thought as a 'slam dunk' by all NFL scoutsWilson: drafted in 3rd round - questions were about size and ability hold up in the NFLIn short, 'Greatness' is probably not readily apparent and may need to be groomed by the right system. I wonder if Brees would have been as good if he was signed by Miami instead of getting the chance to play under Payton in New Orleans? Would Wilson have got his chance or been as good as he was is selected by Schiano and developed in OUR system?JMO.

Actually if memory serves on Brees, he started one more season for the Chargers as Rivers sat the bench, played extremely well and then in his last game blew up his throwing shoulder. I remember Dr. James Andrews saying it was the freakiest sports injury he'd ever seen. Bad time for Brees too, because he hit free agency. Miami had the choice between Brees' reconstructed throwing shoulder and Daunte Culpepper's repaired knee. Went with Culpepper, New Orleans signed Brees and the rest, as they say, was history.

It doesn't have to be Manning, Brady, Brees, Rodgers or Luck. I mean....those guys are the cream of the crop and that is the goal.....but I'd be content with less.A Roethlisberger minus the rapey parts or a Romo minus the chokey parts. Wilson is great. Kaepernick had a down year, but I think he is pretty awesome. Not a fan of Newton....but he's pretty ridiculous on Sundays. Alex Smith finally turned the corner and is pretty damn good. He gets labeled as a game manager, but I think he is more than that. It's a little early, but I'd put Foles in this group. I've been saying he is better than Vick for a few years and this year he made me correct. Hard to tell how much of it is scheme, but I like Nick Foles and think he is legit. Guys like Ryan, Rivers, Flacco, Eli Manning, and Jay Cutler are not really my type of QB, but they are pretty solid. They all do enough great things to deserve their spot. Lower end of acceptable imo .Stafford is solid, but I think he is over rated because Megatron makes him look better than he is. I think he is just good enough. I'd probably throw Dalton in this group too.  So that is 19 guys that I feel are legit starters. Over half the league. So it's not like I am being completely unreasonable. I'm just tired of being the other half that doesn't have a legit playmaker/leader under center. I want other fans to have QB envy. Is that so wrong?

We made the playoffs every year from 99-02. Went to the Championship game twice. Lost it once and won it once on our way to winning the Super Bowl. The other two years we lost in the wildcard....but we still made the playoffs.

Because thats what Mike is gonna be, get him Watkins and we'll start seeing consistent 25+ td's a year from Glennonedit* tbh Ryan has never scared me in this division but it was his weapons like Julio that did, I dont think Ryan can carry a team through the playoffs. Some of you guys are expecting elite top tier echelon qb play ala Mannin,Brees,Rodgers,Brady which can take years to come byI can settle with glennon's decsion making, and building a great D to carry us to through the playoffs like the good ole days

Actually I am fine with him being as good as Brad Johnson, Flacco, or Manning (Eli) as long as the TEAM wins a SB. Manning (Peyton) going into the HOF, but I would rather have Manning (Eli)'s two SB wins.  QB is key, I agree, but you need a full team to win the SB. Whoever is the QB needs to be consistent.  Without a great team even the best QB cannot win the SB.

Ah gotcha, Imo I think Glennon can fit your mold of a "starter" I understand that theres no excitement from Glennon and his 3rd round goofy lanky giraffe look.  From what I see on gamedays, we can get a very capable guy who falls in line with flacco cutler territory.

When you say it like that, nope, not at all. However, while I have my doubts about Glennon, I'm not yet ready to write him off or limit his ceiling. I'm also not saying that IF Smith and Tedford want another quarterback that they shouldn't get one. However, I'm of the opinion, that I think Glennon did enough last season that the PTB will probably roll with Glennon for another year and probably pick a developmental quarterback in round 4 or 5 (or trade up into the 3rd) to find out what they have in Glennon.

Honest to god, the looks don't matter. Luck is one of the ugliest MFers I have ever seen and I would die to have him as our QB. If Glennon played like he does in the 1st quarter all the time, I would be stoked and not want a new QB. Unfortunately he doesn't do that and I am not convinced that any amount of coaching will stop him from being a guy that falls off in the 2nd half and chokes when you need him most. That is really all that matters to me. Trust me, I could been gotten real excited about "Ginger Beard!" if I thought he was actually good.

I can definitely see Glennon developing into a Matt Ryan clone however it will require the Bucs invest a lot in the o-line and the players around him.

I see the similarities, but Matt Ryan was "Matty Ice" as a rookie because he was clutch right out the gates. For that reason I don't think it's a good comparison. It's like saying Terrell Pryor is going to be Cam Newton. There is obviously a huge difference there and it takes a huge leap of faith, which borders ignorance, to claim one will become the other.

Ryan hasn't won a meaningful game since.  Freeman probably has more comeback victories as well as Wilson and Newton and they are all probably younger.

Matty Ice got the name cuz it sounds good. He's hardly the guy you want when their is pressure or a big moment. His weapons though, Jones, Gonzalez, White. Those are some guys you want and can count on to make a play.

lol...you people are great, make my day laughing.  I here it all of the time here in my town about Glennon.  They say "he is to ugly to be a QB, and he cant win games because he is so retarded looking".  Honestly I laugh my butt off when they start with all of that, its very comical. To me he reminds me of that guy off of curious case of benjamin button, Just like steven means with his happy meal smile.  I have a name for all of them, they all remind me of some character.  All joking aside, Glennon needs a fair shot.  The right coaching, players staff and all is what Glennon needs before we can draw a conclusion on him.  And by the way, can we start a thread on who looks like who?  That would be fun...

the got within a few points of going to the Super Bowl only a year ago with him and a mediocre defense.
