The Bucs need a WR if they want to compete, and the NFL WR swap meet is well under way. Yes, the Bucs need an ILB as much if not more, but this post is about WRs.
Cooper Kupp just isn't going to happen with his salary, and they're demanding a 2nd round pick! They should be giving the pick away if somebody is willing to take on the salary of this injury prone player. But who else is out there for the Bucs should they choose to participate in the WR swap meet. The Bucs could use a rent-a-player WR, but that player would have to be interested in jumping into the trenches and fighting, not just playing out the string to free agency.
Mike Williams could be persona nongrata with the Jets. He's getting $10 mil for this year, but most of that was structured as a bonus structured so the Jets will be taking that cap hit in future years. Base salary is $1.2 mil which would be prorated so he's less than $1 mil off the cap of a trading team. So, question #1 is do the Jets really want to trade him? He's knocked down the depth chart with the Adams trade and Rodgers is pissed because he dropped a pass, but as a rent a player he won't bring a high draft pick, and he may be worth more to them just as a part time player and insurance policy than just to pick up a Day 3 pick for next year.
Diontae Johnson is another rent-a-player whose contract will expire at the end of the year, but he has a $7 mil base salary, so that would be prorated to about $4 mil. So would the Panthers want to help out a division foe? Well since the Panthers are out of it this year and the player will be a free agent next year what does it matter? Johnson is in such a horrible situation he might be glad to get out of there and try to put up some numbers in a decent offense. The Panthers can use all the draft picks they can get, even Day 3 picks.
Jakobi Meyers is only 27 and the Raiders are probably going to continue with the fire sale. He has a base salary of $10 mil for next year, so that might not be a fit if the Bucs plan on resigning Godwin. But it would be a fit for the Bucs if they feel they can't count on having Godwin back either because of contract reasons and/or health.
Adam Thielen, another Panther, is signed through 2025, but at a manageable salary of $5.5 mil prorated this year (about $3 mil) and $4 mil next year. That's backup money, but he won't be doing any special teams. But at 34 Theilen just may not have enough left in the tank to be of any interest to the Bucs.
Tee Higgins would be great rent-a-player, but the Bengals would have to be out of the running to want to trade him, and right now they're 3-4 and fighting hard. Like the Jets, I just don't think the Bengals are willing to "wait til next year" with all the expectations they had at the start of the season.
The Bucs would want to trade a Day 3 pick at best for a rental, and they have no sixth rounder and 7th rounders are garbage. The Bucs are pointing toward 2025 anyway, so it would make sense to trade for a player who will be under contract next year as well. That's why Jakobi Meyers may be the best option for the Bucs, and with a manageable $10 mil salary for 2025 it would not be a good sign for bringing back Godwin at double that amount, not with Evans, McMillan and then Meyers already on board.
jakobi myers might be a good addition and probally wont cost much. the rest of em are overrated washed or will just be too expensive
McMillian time to step up. I've been bashing the pick since week 1 b/c I thought we had bigger needs (LB) but turns out WR is suddenly a huge need with our top guys going down. His time to justify the selection. I have not been impressed so far but he will have weeks to put some good film out.
Yeah but it'd be harsh to move on from Godwin so quickly, because that's what they'd be doing. It would be like leaving your wife's funeral and taking an Uber over to the strip club.jakobi myers might be a good addition and probally wont cost much. the rest of em are overrated washed or will just be too expensive
McMillan needs to get in better position and fight for those jump balls. It's not all his fault that he's not perfectly on the same page as Baker who has thrown some bad balls, but he definitely needs to take a step forward. But still he's only one guy.McMillian time to step up. Cold world. the bucs should have one major priority; to win football games. Chris Godwin is irrelevant to the issue at hand. If JL thinks jakobi myers gives us a better chance to win on sunday and can be acquired at reasonable cost then JL has the responsibility to execute that deal. do your job
so it really depends what we are trying to accomplish
remain NFC Competitors/win playoff game (s)- Kupp or Higgins
Try to tread water and make playoffs, lose in first round - Williams, Johnson, Meyers
waive the white flag - roll with what we got....next man up mentality.
Just cause reports are that Rams want a 2nd for Kupp doesn’t mean they’re going to get it. That’s negotiations and you always ask high. Look at what the other receivers are being traded for. D-Hop went for a 5th!

but D-Hop and Kupp are two different WRs at this stage in their careers.
I actually would have taken D-Hop for a 5th here...even if he was Julio Jones II, worth the risk.
for KUPP, wondering if we can trade a 4th that can become a third
but i know just dreaming here...Bucs will only consider such a drastic move if we manage to beat the Falcons with no weapons this week!
Has any reporter actually called Licht and asked him if he is working the phones for a trade?
Close to the vest of course. But he has to be looking, especially for ILBs after Britt was rated 83rd out of 83 this week by PFF. That's astoundingly, amazingly bad.Has any reporter actually called Licht and asked him if he is working the phones for a trade?
How bad do we honestly need a receiver?
obviously Godwin hurts.
evans will be back this season. Just drafted McMillan. Shephard has been decent. Trey Palmer eh not a huge fan. Kameron Johnson has some upside but that TD drop ugh. Out 3 weeks as well. Marquez Calloway practice squad a fan of but biased cause I’m a vols fan. Ryan miller just called up. Just signed Dennis Houston? Not familiar
certainly not the best group in the league and would love a trade don’t get me wrong.
id prefer to trade on the defensive side. Pass rusher? Corner? ILB?
if a unit holds us back this year it won’t be the offense. Our oline has shown vast improvements as has the run game.

Its a little bit of fool' gold because theres no one out thre that is likley to replace3 Godwin playing at an All-Pro level
id prefer to trade on the defensive side. Pass rusher? Corner? ILB?
pass rusher to cover up for terrible ILB play or an ILB
either move probably makes more difference than WR
none of these moves are likely
Roll with what we have. McMillan and Palmer get real time development in expanded roles.
Agree, adding a WR only complicates our situation, and would force a hard decision with Godwin…and it would still be an unknown.
If we could just steal one from Atlanta this week… I actually think it’s our best shot. It certainly will break up some tendencies…
