IMO Barber and Jones can be a very good 1-2 punch.

Of course our success will depend on the run game. 27th ranked run offense spells bad offense and bad for QB. You see how poorly Dak Prescott played in games where Dallas got stuffed on the run? He looked terrible. Yet most would say “oh he’s better than Winston.” No he’s not better he has a great run game and protection! When run didn’t work few games he looked like hot garbage. I also think Our O line was more to blame for our lack of run game last year than the RB’s or Martin. There were no holes period… Read more »

Well, to be fair, Doug Martin was significantly worse than Peyton Barber. Barber had some of the better stats in the league in games where he carried the ball 10+ times (4.2 ypc in those, IIRC, and 3rd in the NFL in success rate per Football Outsiders), so it couldn’t really be the Oline. fred, you are somewhat correct that the offensive line didn’t do our running game any favors, but the fact that Barber averaged better than Martin did behind the same line is telling. Martin wasn’t effective like he was in 2014 in hitting holes and making yardage and we waited too long to bench him and move over to Barber. Now, I’m not as high on Barber as some here. I think he can be an effective back, but Rojo is going to be the guy that will make us a better rushing team. But as you pointed out, the offensive… Read more »

There is big problem with Bucs and it’s not anything specific. Its everything. Even if offensively, their running game and red zone TDs are improved; defensively, they double their sack total and get more turnovers; and special teams learn to execute field goals and extra points, and do something positive – they will still be a 4-12 or a 5-11 team in 2018 because their schedule is murder. If the record alone leads to the dismissal of the entire staff, a new staff will likely cut or not resign expensive players like GMcC, JPP, Brate, DJax, Vinny Curry, Dot, Fitz,… Read more »
