In his first statement since getting released by the Bucs, Gerald McCoy took to his personal instagram to thank the Glazer family, the fans, and everyone in the Tampa Bay community.

Donning a batman shirt and playing batman themed music in typical McCoy fashion, he then stopped the music to begin speaking and give some acknowledgements.

“What’s up everybody?” McCoy said. “I know this is supposed to be some emotional video, some long extended thank you, but from me, to starting with the Glazer family, you guys changed my life forever by making me a Buccaneer. I grew up a Buccaneers fan, a Warren Sapp fan, and just loving the organization. All y’all changed my family’s life forever, so I’m forever grateful for that.

To all the fans, ones who loved, ones who hated me, all the writers, everybody who’s a part of of Tampa, that ones that wrote badly about me and the ones that wrote good about me. Everybody, anything including Tampa Bay, I just thank you guys. You guys made me who I am, so I love everybody. To all the fans who supported me regardless, who will continue to support me regardless, I love you guys. I am a Buccaneer forever and I will be back, I will retire as a Buc. But for now, [plays music again].”

McCoy spent nine seasons on the Bucs, and notched 54.5 sacks, 218 tackles, and 79 tackles for loss in 123 games during in his career. He ranks third all time in team history for sacks. He was an even bigger fixture in the community.

  5. Gerald McCoy thanked the Tampa bay community, the Glazers, his fans and his detractors.

He said he will retire a Buc. That was intriguing.

Sounds like the separation was amicable behind the scenes. It was a business situation after all. Maybe it was mutual. He showed class in his remarks.

  6. Best wishes to Gerald. Good guy. Definitely time for a split tho. I also hope he stays off social media for his professional sake. He still has alot to learn, though we all do. He worries too much about what people think of him. We dont really care GMC. Winning is what its about. The people who put you down are insecure. No reason to worry one bit. Go win some games wherever ya go.

  7. I always appreciated McCoy and rooted for him. I even said once he tore both his Biceps that at least now neither of them should tear again. He was a great guy and got way too much criticism for being too nice. I always thought he was solid even if he wasn’t perfect. Sad to see him go and hope he finds a place to finish up whatever he thinks he has left to do.

  10. Great message from Gerald. I expect nothing less from him. He’s a class act unlike the guy they brought in to replace him.

He’ll be in the Ring of Honor much to the chagrin of the people that hate him. I can’t wait for that day.

  11. Gerald might be in the ring of honor one day, but I think there are 20 Bucs who are ahead of him for that honor.

Regarding Suh: Suh is a class act off the field. He has become friends with Warren Buffet and is actually being mentored by Warren right now. He has given to charity and a number of foundations. He has done a lot for his university also, donating a building I think.

He’s a nasty beast who terrorizes offensive linemen while crushing their dreams on the field.

  12. Good man, good player … was not in a good situation with the Bucs.

Though he’s sad to leave, his chances of playing on a playoff team this year just went up about 200%. As happened with a lot of other Bucs players forced to move on due to business considerations.

  13. GMC has kept his composure throughout all of this. He has not lashed in or out and anybody. He’s really
a class guy and a role model for kids coming up. Many wanted him to become angry and say bad things so they could retort. But GMC is a cool customer. He will be inducted into our Ring of Honor one day. Thats for sure. Peoples memories are short. They forget he carried our sorry Defense for years without much help on that D line. He was made the Scapegoat due to his salary. And to be honest, The Bucs organization could have handled this a little better. So its over for us and I hope GMC gets hired by a contender. He deserves it. Good luck dude, you played your string to the end like a..Standup professional.

  14. GMC was old.
    JPP is old. And injured.
    Suh is old.

None will be on the team next year. Guess we’ll be drafting DL next year.

Unfortunately we’ll be drafting off cycle yet again, whiffing in this year’s draft loaded with DL the way we whiffed on OL talent heavy draft in the past. And people wonder why our GM gets so heavily criticized.

    It’s a Bust Licht. I mean, a Bucs Life.

  18. Brutal truth: Good (borderline great player), not clutch, mediocre leader, good teammate, oft-injured, overall career around B-

  25. Whole lot better then his cinco de mayo rant. Overall positive social media response. I give a B grade as a Buc. Interesting that he was a Buc fan & a Sapp fan,. Not sure he hated losing more than he liked winning, did not have the personalty to win with football bone heads for owners. His whole career was multiple coaching & GM changes not all his fault. Do not think he demanded more from Glazers, like Sapp & company probably did. This was classy Goodbye, I respect that.

  28. Jameis Wins a Ton…I didn’t know a DT on a horrendous defense could possibly be clutch. Put Aaron Donald on the Bucs and watch how clutch he becomes. I’ll give you a hint, the Bucs are still a 3 win last place team. Measuring McCoys success by clutchness is borderline laughable. You’re only as good or “clutch” as the team around you. And the defense around him for years was college level good
