Another season of frustration and disappointment continued on Sunday, this time the repeat movie was against the Ravens in Baltimore. The Bucs had their chances, shot themselves in the foot repeatedly and to no one’s surprise dropped their ninth game of the season, losing to the Ravens 20-12.

Below is the list of most disappointing in the loss. Take a look and see if you agree and offer up your thoughts in the comment section below.

Offensive Play Calling
Yes the Ravens have one of the best defenses in the NFL. Yes the conditions were dreadful with cold temperatures and rain falling for much of the game. But 241 yards of total offense with that much talent on that side of the ball is inexcusable.

Two weeks in a row the Bucs offense was poor in the second half and they have scored just three points in those two games which, not surprisingly, were losses. The Bucs red zone play selections were very questionable and on the most crucial play of the game, with the season and many jobs on the line, the Bucs staff called a dud of a play on fourth down. Even more damning was the fact it came after a timeout where there was plenty of time to think about it.

Another frustrating thing was the Bucs staff’s inability to get the play calls in with time left on the play clock. The Bucs burned two timeouts in the second half due to the play clock winding down, two timeouts they could have used late in the game. That falls squarely on the coaching staff.

WR Chris Godwin
Three targets, zero catches and one huge drop. Godwin has had two bad games in a row and both came at terrible times to have them. With DeSean Jackson out, many, myself included, expected Godwin to have a big impact. Godwin’s drop on the first drive of the game for Tampa Bay might have been a touchdown. Jameis Winston hit him in stride on a post and Godwin would have most likely split the safeties and scored. Instead the Bucs failed to score and Godwin’s drop was followed up by a number of other drops in the first half for Bucs receivers.

QB Jameis Winston
Winston probably belongs more on the mediocre list, as opposed to disappointing. Unfortunately for him we don’t do one of those, so here he sits. There is no question he could have been helped out a lot more, particularly in the first half, where the Bucs dropped at least three catchable balls. But at the end of the day, despite tough condition, the Bucs lost and only scored 12 points with Winston under center.

Winston also had a bad pass intended for Mike Evans that was picked off in the fourth quarter and also make a bad decision on third down in the red zone in the first half, throwing a ball up for grabs that probably should have been intercepted.

On the afternoon Winston finished 13-of-25 for 157 yards with one interception. And 64 of those yards came on just one deep ball after a scramble to Evans.

C Ryan Jensen
Jensen was called for a hold in the first half that negated a completion. Fortunately for Jensen, Winston hit Evans for a 64-yard pass on the same drive and the team was able to overcome it.

An error by Jensen that the Bucs weren’t able to overcome came in the fourth quarter with the Bucs driving and facing a third-and-1. Jensen was beaten to the inside and the Ravens were able to stuff running back Peyton Barber for a three-yard loss. The Bucs failed on the next play, a fourth down pass that fell incomplete. The Bucs never got the ball back as the Ravens ran out the clock to beat Tampa Bay.

P Bryan Anger
Ultimately it didn’t cost the Bucs the game, but as if the extra point unit has struggled enough, holder Bryan Anger muffed the snap on the Bucs lone extra point attempt. Rain, cold, even snow, it shouldn’t matter, Anger has to be perfect in that aspect of his job.

Bucs Run Defense
249 rushing yards total and 165 just in the second half alone. The Ravens run the football. That is what they do, at least since Lamar Jackson was inserted into the starting lineup. But they don’t do anything crazy, they just line up and dare you to stop them. The Bucs didn’t and the the result was a loss. Any talk of the offense not helping them out, injuries, players getting run down etc… means little. At the end of the day the Ravens do what they do better than the Bucs.
