Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was asked on Wednesday if he has congratulated Bucs QB Tom Brady on his recent Super Bowl victory. Belichick evaded answering the question directly, opting not to share those conversations (or lack thereof) with the media.
“I think I’ll keep those conversations privately between myself and the other people that are involved,” Belichick said. “Appreciate the question.”

After winning six Super Bowls in New England, Brady departed last offseason for Tampa Bay, where he promptly collected a seventh ring. There have been whispers that things became frosty between he and Belichick, but not much has ever been confirmed. The duo has done nothing but speak highly of each other since the divorce, although Belichick has been short and cryptic when asked about Brady at times.
Not affirmatively answering this question seems curious by Belichick. If he had congratulated Brady, why not say so? And if not, which seems more likely, what is the issue between Belichick and Brady?
The three-time head coach of the year just endured his first losing season since 2000, a 7-9 dud of a year that resulted in massive changes this offseason. The Patriots were big spenders in free agency and drafted Alabama QB Mac Jones in the first round. Buffalo will once again be the front runners in the AFC East, but New England is in position to contend for a playoff spot. The key will be improved quarterback play from a year ago, as Cam Newton and Jones battle it out for the starting spot.
Belichick and Brady will go head-to-head for the first time ever in Week 4, when the Bucs travel to New England to take on the quarterback’s old team.
