BUCS BEST BET AT QB (EARLY 1-3)
Nathan Peterman – Pittsburgh – Senior – 6-2, 226 – 4.78
Peterson, who once played for Bucs quarterbacks coach Mike Bajakian at the University of Tennessee where he was Josh Dobbs’ backup, transferred to Pittsburgh after graduating early after three seasons. He started his two final years at Pitt, passing for 2,287 yards with 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions as a junior and 2,855 yards with 27 TDs and seven INTs as a senior without much help around him with regards to the offensive line and receiving corps. If the Bucs decide to draft a quarterback for Jameis Winston to replace Mike Glennon it won’t be higher than the third round.
BUCS’ BEST BET AT QB (LATE 4-7)
Alek Torgersen – Pennsylvania – Senior – 6-2, 218 – 4.91
The third day of the draft is where the Bucs will more likely draft a quarterback to compete with Ryan Griffin and Sean Renfree – if they draft one at all. Torgersen is a seventh-round prospect from Penn who had a good showing at the East-West Shrine Game. The Bucs attended his pro day where he ran a 4.91. Torgersen’s mobility was on display when he rushed for 516 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior, producing 17 passing touchdowns and 2,231 yards and completing 66.9 percent of his throws. Torgersen passed for 51 TDs in his Penn career and had 70 total touchdowns while producing 7,937 total yards – all school records. He has the tools to be a successful backup quarterback in Dirk Koetter’s system.
