The Pick: DE, Derek Rivers

Pro Day Result: Youngstown State

Rivers’ rise to the top of some NFL draft rankings has been fun to watch. He was a monster at Youngstown State, setting the school record for sacks. Then, at the Senior Bowl and Combine, he put on some shows by looking better than the big-name school players he was finally paired up with.

I think Rivers is one of the better pass rushing talents in the draft, and I think he can do so from the linebacker or defensive end position. When I interviewed him myself, I came away very impressed with him as a person as much as a player. I think the Steelers would love to have him.
