Cook’s Reaction – Rounds 21-25
I started the final round off needing just to fine tune a few things, with the offensive line being one of them. George Yarno was an easy pick as my other guard to line up opposite Sweezy, plus I needed a backup kicker. Yes. Kicker. Yarno once kicked an extra point for the Bucs, toe-style, in the final game of the 1983 season. Google it. I also needed another tackle and was surprised to see Roman Oben still on the board. If he was good enough to win a Super Bowl protecting the statue named Brad Johnson, then he wouldn’t have an issue keeping defensive ends off of Jameis Winston.
With the offense I have I don’t expect to be punting very often, however, just in case by some miracle a defense is able to stop the juggernaut I have created, I took the lanky but strong-legged Bryan Anger, who took a one-year deal with the Bucs and turned it into a contract extension, making him one of the highest paid punters in the league. Anger’s ability to drop the ball inside the 20 was extremely impressive where he placed 37 punts with just five touchbacks.
Reynolds lost his mind and took a kick returner the day before, way too early in my opinion, and in fact actually took the wrong one. Karl Williams was good, but Clifton Smith was dynamic, not only returning a kickoff for a touchdown, but also a punt in the 2008 season which earned him Pro Bowl honors.
And to round out my draft I took a kicker. I flipped a coin between Roberto Aguayo (Go Noles!) and Michael Husted. It came up Husted so I did two out of three. It came up Husted again. By the way I was kidding. I was all in on Husted the cannon-legged weapon from Virginia. While Husted wasn’t the most accurate kicker in team history, he was clutch, and each season with the Bucs, made kicks of 50 or more yards including two 57-yarders.
