Mike Freeman, an NFL columnist for Bleacher Report, reported on Friday that several front-office sources had informed him that the Titans and Bucs are expected to “reset their sights” at quarterback, possibly spelling an end to Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota’s tenure with the teams that drafted them first and second overall in 2015.

Winston’s potential as a franchise quarterback, now more than ever in his fifth year, has come under scrutiny following a five-interception, six-turnover game against the Carolina Panthers in Week 6, while things have hit a similar spiral for Mariota in Tennessee.

Also in Week 6, Mariota himself was benched in favor of backup quarterback Ryan Tannehill en route to a 16-0 shutout at the hands of the now 2-5 Denver Broncos.

Agree. He is enough of a liability to cost 3-4 (or more) losses per season own his own. That said, good QBs are as hard to find as good offensive linemen. See Bucs … year after year.

Would be sad if it wasn’t so silly. Williams was a better QB than Jameis..by far. And Dilfer got lucky that he went to a team with a real shut down D. More than likely, Jameis will either be a career backup or out of the league in the next three years…if he doesn’t show some consistency.

Let’s not forget Steve Young, another former drafted Buc’s QB to go on and win a Superbowl elsewhere. The next time we draft a QB it needs to be in their contract that they must only drink bottle water.

Bigger question, do you pull the trigger now and start Gabbert or Griffin or let him play out the string? If we’re moving on, it suggests the season is lost and we’re, again. waiting for next year. I was hoping to make past mid-season before I started looking forward to the draft.

I believe it’s the end for MM in Tenn, but don’t think the Bucs will move on from Winston unless they move on from the bigger failure Jason Licht. How can a GM survive five out of six losing seasons, three head coaches, and blowing the #1 pick on a QB? I’ll tell you how, because ownership is more clueless then the dummy they hired to run the team. I think if Jameis goes, Licht needs to be the first out the door. That won’t happen until the Glazers come to their senses, and I don’t see that happening either.… Read more »

BUC-ASS-BOB

I agree with the Glazers are more than clueless, I do believe the reason they keep Jason Licht is 1. Glazers take some of the responsibility for the mistakes they force on Jason. 2. He allows Bryon Glazer to make the big decisions, the win killing decisions and replacing him would risk the chance of exposure to their involvement. 3. No other GM would allow owners to make such stupid moves and take the blame. Jason has been around football too long to make these choices on his own, he is bowing to the Special Gym champion owners of this… Read more »

Only would add number 4 – Glazers wanted a big name coach and Licht said he could deliver Arians as evidenced by a) constant chatter/support from Arians about Licht; b) extension given to Licht for the delivery. Question will be is how long BA will be here now that he has to find/groom a new QB and an apparent miscalculation from afar as to the amount of talent on the team. They are still tied together – wonder is Licht’s contract has an out if BA leaves they have a buy-out for the GM. Rate this item:Thumb UpThumb DownSubmit Rating00… Read more »

Anything is possible, but when your whole right side of offensive line is missing what did you think was going to happen to Winston? I have never been impressed with our Oline historically. The QB makes the big bucks so fairly or not he gets the blame. However, Evan’s is living of raw talent, is a terrible route runner, gives up on the ball, and doesn’t maximize his height by grabbing the ball at high point. Spend on Oline and light a fire under Evans. Then maybe Winston would look like a franchise QB. To expect greatness when there is… Read more »

No one to blame about the Winston situation, but Winston. I believe last Sunday the coaching staff gave up on Winston and decided to just let him try to get out of the mess that he created and he failed; therefore they know that he’s not their quarterback. Yawn……. This is a team sport. If Winston and Buc’s turn it around the rest of the season most will remount his bandwagon. Granted he has had more than his share of bad games, but like I said missed game winning field goals, multiple untimely penalties, lousy tackling, inconsistent O-line play, a continual parade of new coaches and coordinators and now a new scheme are team failures. Jameis has 3-300 yard passing games this year. 380, 385, 400. An NFL QB cannot throw for 300 yards in an NFL game if his Offensive Line sucks as bad as some keep suggesting as to why Jameis cannot produce wins! Yes, our O-Line is bad. But the problem lies within the Offensive play calling and what Jameis does with the ball when he actually has sufficient time to throw the ball!

Play call has to improve, but if you notice around the league when a bad Oline is in front of a good QB after a while that QB is gonna get gun shy. Whether we keep Winston or not the team needs a line that can give whoever the QB is more than 2.2 seconds to get rid of the ball, and be disciplined enough to not make stupid penalties in critical situations.

The fact that the local sports publications still pose him moving on as a *maybe* shows how freaking delusionally biased they’ve been for Winston from day 1. HE’S DONE!

Going into the season, there was nothing short of a Brady-like season that would’ve convinced me that he should be re-signed after this year. That’s obviously not happening.

Coming out of FSU, he was a turnover machine, and people expected that he magically would change. That was wishful thinking from the beginning. Good riddance.

I think that too much blame is going to Winston. The Buccaneers should be 3-3 if Gay hit the short FG against the Giants. His QB rating is about average. The Buccaneers pass defense sucks. They could have the first five games, and Winston was good in them. He caused last week’s embarrassment. Simple recommendations: 1. Ronald Jones main RB. 2.
