After suffering a knee injury against the Saints in the Divisional Round, wide receiver Antonio Brown was forced to miss the Bucs’ NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Brown is expected to be healthy and ready to play in the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs.
“He battled a knee injury, they thought he was going to be good to go earlier in the week but just did not quite heal up like they thought so he was out,” Rapoport said. “As far as Antonio Brown, I’m told the expectation is that he will be back for the Super Bowl, he was pretty close this week, so that is a good sign for the Bucs.”
According to head coach Bruce Arians earlier in the week, the expectation was that Brown would be healthy enough to play against Green Bay but his injury hadn’t progressed as quickly as Tampa Bay was hoping.
“We just talked to him this morning and to put him on the plane and fly up there and have it swell more just doesn’t make any sense,” Arians said on Friday. “He wasn’t as close as we had hoped so we’ll get him ready for the next one.”
