According to CBS Sports NFL reporter Jason La Canfora, the Bucs might be involved in the pursuit of Deshaun Watson. On Friday, the Houston Texans star quarterback was cleared of criminal charges related to sexual misconduct allegations against him. Watson is still the subject of 22 active civil suits accusing him of sexual assault and sexual misconduct. But, with criminal charges off the table, his trade market should heat up.
In a recent tweet, La Canfora indicated the Bucs could be among Watson’s suitors.
There are plenty of people in the Bucs organization who would aggressively pursue Deshaun Watson. Rival GMs believe they will be a factor in this

Pewter Report reported recently that the Bucs have done extensive digging into Deshaun Watson this offseason. Scott Reynolds wrote in a recent Fab 5 column that the Bucs were not without concern. However, the recent change in Watson’s situation could pique the team’s interest again.
Of course, the Bucs won’t be alone in any potential pursuit of Watson. The Seahawks and Panthers are expected to be the most aggressive teams for his services. But the Saints, Browns and Bucs are also interested parties. Various reports have also included the Steelers, Eagles and Colts.
But it’s important to remember that Watson does have a no-trade clause. He doesn’t have all the leverage in trade negotiations, but it’s pretty close. The Texans do not want to pay him $35 million to sit on the bench again this season. They need the assets that come from trading him, and having him sit longer will only depreciate his value. Because of that, expect Watson to have a large say in his final destination.
Does the team have a good head coach? A good offensive line? A good defense? Those are three criteria (in no specific order) I've been told Deshaun Watson is looking for in his next team.

Bucs & Baker?
Meanwhile, Tampa Bay Times beat reporter Rick Stroud also tweeted that the Bucs have done their due diligence on Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. The Cleveland signal caller is entering his fifth-year option season, carrying a cap charge of $18 million. But it’s highly unlikely the Bucs would trade for an $18 million, one-year rental at QB, especially given how Mayfield has struggled.
#Bucs have also done work as you would expect on Baker Mayfield from an evaluation standpoint should he become available for a trade. https://t.co/TutAXu72Iz

There are very few available quarterbacks the Bucs haven’t inquired about this offseason. Of course, that doesn’t mean they’ll make a trade or major signing to acquire any of them. Tampa Bay is simply a quarterback-needy team surveying the market to see what the asking prices are. Right now, the Bucs don’t appear close to pulling the trigger on any significant move. We’ll see if that changes, especially as it pertains to Watson.
