FAB 4. Inside PR’s Bucs Camp Coverage

PewterReport.com officially kicked off its 2019 Bucs training camp coverage on Thursday with coverage of press conferences by Bucs head coach Bruce Arians, quarterback Jameis Winston and rookie linebacker Devin White. As I embark on my 24th year of covering your favorite team – the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – I want to give you all a heartfelt “thank you” for choosing PewterReport.com as one of your primary sources for Bucs news.

THANK YOU, PEWTER NATION!

As some of you may know, Trevor Sikkema is back on PewterReport.com for Bucs training camp coverage and regular season coverage this year. We’re happy to have him back for a third year of Bucs coverage, joining Mark Cook, Bucs beat writers Taylor Jenkins and Matt Matera and myself on the Pewter Report team this summer and fall.

Sikkema jumped aboard the latest Pewter Nation Podcast, which is presented by Westshore Financial, to offer up his Bucs camp preview and to discuss what stood out from Thursday’s press conferences. I officially predicted that Bucs rookie inside linebacker Devin White would get six sacks this year from all the blitzing he’ll be doing.

Sikkema’s popular Cover 3 column returns to PewterReport.com next Tuesday. Rumor has it he’ll be studying Ndamukong Suh in his first column back in training camp, so don’t miss it.

In addition to the return of the weekly Cover 3 column, PewterReport.com has plenty of regular features throughout Bucs training camp. Our daily Inside Bucs Camp practice reports will continue to feature video snippets of big plays from the day’s practice as well as two new mini-features within each Inside Bucs Camp practice report.

PewterReport.com will be tracking quarterback Jameis Winston’s progress on a daily basis in a section called Winston Watch. We’ll do our best to log his passing numbers for accuracy each day depending on our vantage point. Sometimes the media’s view is obstructed during some practice periods. Winston is in a critical fifth-year option as well as being in his first season in a new offense since entering the league in 2015 as the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

PewterReport.com will also be tracking the development of this year’s fifth overall pick, Devin White, who will start at inside linebacker in Todd Bowles’ defense and will be the team’s defensive captain. White has already made a strong impression on the veterans on defense and has taken on a leadership role despite being a rookie. PewterReport.com will log his splash plays and track his coverage abilities on a daily basis in a section of the Inside Bucs Camp practice report called White Watch.

The popular Bucs Training Camp Diaries return this year with two compelling players giving PewterReport.com an exclusive look at training camp through their eyes. Each year we select two players – one from offense and one from defense, and a rookie and a veteran – and chronicle their performances and experiences in training camp and the preseason.

This year’s veteran is 28-year old inside linebacker Kevin Minter, who has spent more time with Bruce Arians and Bowles than any other Buccaneer. Minter was a second-round draft pick of the Cardinals in 2013, which was the first season in Arizona for Arians and Bowles. Minter, an LSU alum, who mentored White in college, also spent last summer with Bowles up in New York Jets camp.

You can read Minter’s initial Bucs Training Camp Diary edition – “With B.A. It’s Super Bowl Or Bust” – by clicking here.

Our other Bucs Training Camp Diary subject is rookie wide receiver Scotty Miller, who generated quite a bit of buzz during the OTAs and mini-camp by making several big plays downfield with his 4.4 speed. Miller, Tampa Bay’s sixth-round pick, is trying to win a roster spot at wide receiver, as well as win the kick and punt return duties. The former Bowling Green standout got engaged over the summer, which he shared in his first entry.

You can read Miller’s initial Bucs Training Camp Diary entry – “Catching The Deep Ball” by clicking here.

The Minter and Miller Bucs Training Camp Diaries will come out twice a week throughout camp and the preseason. The next entries will be published following the Bucs’ first day in full pads, which will be on Sunday, July 28.

We hope that you enjoy our Bucs training camp coverage on PewterReport.com this summer. We will have other Bucs stories on the website as news breaks and injuries happen, and I again, I thank you, the loyal PewterReport.com reader, for your continued support.
