The Bucs are struggling to keep their heads above the water as they start the season 0-3. Things have taken an even worse turn with wide receiver Jalen McMillan exiting Week 3’s game early with a knee injury, going on injured reserve and quarterback Baker Mayfield exiting with a dislocated thumb, costing him the next three weeks. This is among various other injuries that the team is already dealing with, leaving Wednesday’s injury report as long as a CVS receipt.

Jalen McMillan has been plagued with injury throughout his time in the NFL. During the Bucs game against the Minnesota Vikings, McMillan reaggravated a pre-exsisting injury in his left knee leading him to be placed on the injured reserve list. The receiver is expected to be out for six to eight weeks, leaving a starting spot open.

In additional bad news, Chris Godwin Jr. is dealing with an ankle injury and did not participate at practice today. If Godwin does not play in Week 4’s game, the Bucs will be down two starting wide receivers. This will give an opportunity for rookie wide receiver, Ted Hurst to get more targets and elevate his rookie campaign further.

The most concerning news of all is that Baker Mayfield’s injury will cause him to be out for a minimum of three weeks. In place of Mayfield, rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels will be starting. Daniels signed with the team as a UDFA out of Kansas earlier this year. After beating out other quarterbacks like Connor Bazelak and Jake Browning for the backup spot, Daniels will be getting his first NFL start.

On the defensive side of things, Rueben Bain Jr., Yaya Diaby, Rakeem Nuñez-Roches and Jacob Parrish all did not participate during Wednesday’s practice. Additionally, SirVocea Dennis, Keionte Scott and Josiah Trotter were all limited in participation.

Week 4’s game against the Green Bay Packers is quickly approaching and things are looking grim in Tampa Bay. To keep up with the rest of the division, this team desperately needs a win. With a rookie-led offense and a banged-up defense, can they get it done?
