Bucs outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett won the NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors for Sunday’s effort in Tampa Bay’s 28-10 win at Denver. It was a great welcome home for Barrett, who played for the Broncos for five years (2014-18). Barrett recorded his first two sacks of the season, including one for a safety in the third quarter of the Bucs’ victory.
Barrett is now a two-time winner of the NFC Defensive Player of the Week award. He was awarded that honor for a three-sack game in Week 2 at Carolina, en route to becoming a first-time Pro Bowler as the league’s leading sacker with 19.5 QB captures in 2019. Barrett is tied for second on the Bucs with Ndamukong Suh this season with two sacks with Jason Pierre-Paul leading the way with three.
The Buccaneers mic’d up Barrett for his return to Denver and published a video of his two sacks and for him cheering on his teammates, as fellow linebacker Lavonte David got his first interception of the season and nose tackle Vita Vea recorded his first sack of the season against the Broncos.
