The Bucs have some top heavy talent at the safety position with Antoine Winfield Jr. and Tykee Smith. There’s arguments to be made that they’re the best safety duo in all of the league.
But after those two players, the depth of the group goes downhill very, very fast. Technically next up would undrafted free agent that’s going into his second year, J.J. Roberts, who is coming off of a torn ACL in training camp and has yet to see a regular season game.

Tampa Bay did draft defensive back Keionte Scott, but he is better used for the slot corner position than at safety. Marcus Banks is another option, although he also has very little experience playing at this level.
With so much conversation about the Bucs’ cornerback situation, there hasn’t been as much focus about the safeties. If something were to happen to Winfield or Smith, the Bucs could be in a really rough spot.
It also looks like the position where having another veteran player could benefit the team the most. Are we overlooking this safety position group or are the Bucs fine going into the season with what they have?
