On if this is an opportunity to prove what his future can be
“I think every game, to me, is kind of like that just because of the standard of excellence in this league and aspirations I have to be the best. I’m always trying to show what I’m about and showing that I lead and trying to execute.”

On why he thought would get another opportunity this season
“I think just always being ready. I wasn’t going to take a day off, I wasn’t going to mope around. I was just going to be myself and be prepared.”
On inconsistent play
“That’s something I’ll probably have to think about after the season. Right now I’m focused on winning, that’s my main concern right now and how we can do that and what I can do to lead us to doing that.”
On coming off of the Bengals game
“With games like that it’s a snap and clear mentality. I know that’s not me. I would have been more beat up if it was a game we lost and I did get back out there the next week. I agree with you that was not a good game, so now I’ve just got to focus on what I can do now to ensure this team that it doesn’t happen for me anymore.”
On if the offense is too aggressive and that it leads to turnovers
“Any offense is made for the quarterback to make great decisions. Some decisions can lead to interceptions and some players on the other team that are paid to make great plays can lead to that as well. I believe, as a quarterback, our main role is to give our team a chance to win and as long as we’re doing that we can’t go wrong.”
On Desean Jackson and his effort this season

“Desean Jackson is one of the best players to play in this league ever. I think that we’re very blessed and grateful to have him. I don’t agree with pointing fingers at anyone. Me personally, I would point the fingers at myself because I hold myself to a high standard and I’m fine with fingers pointed at me but by no means do I like pointing fingers at our players.”
On if he could find reasons why he’s struggled
“If you guys really look at film the Cincinnati game was just a really bad game. If you were to grade me in those other two games I played pretty good football. The Atlanta game I had a bone-headed turnover that could have cost us. The Cleveland game I had a bone-headed turnover in overtime but previous to that we drove the ball downfield and gave our team a chance to win the game. Moving forward from that my focus is now. Those are really the only games I could reflect on, I’ve really just had three games to play. Now I have to just focus on every opportunity that I have. I’m just grateful that I’m back on the field, that’s all I care about.”
On if he’s frustrated that he only had three games to show what he’s got this year
“I think we can go back to how this season started. Fitzmagic, that was all the talk and he was playing excellent and if you watch the film he was playing good, we just made some mistakes. I can’t speak for Coach Koetter, I think I agree with him we want to win and any way that our individual selves can add to that, we’ll try to do it.”
On if it hurt losing Koetter’s trust and starting Fitzpatrick
“It didn’t. It showed that he wanted to win. I think it hurt me more that we lost. I think that everyone’s main focus here, even you guys, it’s easier for you guys when we win, well it’s probably harder, you can’t find much to say, but we’ve got to win. That’s all that matters in this league as a coach and specifically a quarterback. You can look at my stats and say, ‘Oh, Jameis this,’ but you’ve got to win to be up to that standard of excellence that we’re held to at this position.”
On Fitzmagic and if the national craze got him more room to play
“I can’t control the perception of Fitzmagic, I mean, I bought into it because we were winning and that’s the most important thing to me, that on Sundays or Mondays the Bucs are winning.”

On why the offense is so much better this year
“I think that when we’re clicking we execute very well. As coaches, they game plan very well. As players, I believe, our talent level and our effort is better than probably a lot of teams in this league. That’s the only reason I can see. I’m a good quarterback, I have great targets. That’s a magic buildup for a great offense.”
On if that makes the turnovers that more frustrating
“You can’t beat yourself any way, mainly turnovers. You can’t beat yourself.”
On his mentality when he has so few chances left
“Like I said, my standard is to be the best no matter what the circumstance. I have to be the best, that’s how you get longevity, that’s how you win games, that’s how all of us in here feel about a season. That’s really all I’m focused on right now.”
On whether he’s had a lot on his mind and if it’s hard to clear his mind and just play football
“I think that’s just been a part of my reality this year but as a professional my job is to go out there and execute on Sundays. My job is to find a way to provide for my four-month year old and my family. I think that anything I went through this year, I bring it with open arms because my profession is to overcome that and God has blessed me with an opportunity to be in this position again to provide for my family and to use the talents that he’s blessed me with so I’m going to do that.”
On if he believes he gives the team the best chance to win
“It’s a week-to-week league, that’s the simple way I can put it. In my heart I believe I can be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL but we have an opportunity to show that. For me to be in the ranks with all of those high-rank guys I have to show it, consistently.”
On whether he feels like the team is committed to him for 2019 and on
“I just know I’m committed to this team and committed to doing my best to provide an opportunity for me later.”
