Head Coach Dirk Koetter has just officially announced that WR DeSean Jackson will be out for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers because of a thumb injury. Jackson has been limited in practice all week, wearing a brace on his thumb, but ultimately can’t go. Dealing with the nagging injury last week, Jackson had three catches for 19 yards on eight targets, and one rush for six yards. He will be reevaluated next week.

Koetter also said that in the absence of Jackson, we could see some more playing time for rookie WR Justin Watson, who is fifth on the team’s receiver depth chart. This means more targets could go around to Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Adam Humphries, as well. Watson has mostly played special teams since making the game day roster in Week 4. He does have one catch for five yards on the season, which came a week later.
