So much for the Brady free agency effect.

Some speculated that by signing quarterback Tom Brady other free agents would flock to Tampa Bay. So far that hasn’t transpired. In fact it couldn’t keep the Buccaneers from losing one of their own late on Tuesday evening.

Free agent wide receiver Breshad Perriman, who was a key contributor down the stretch after injures sidelined Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, is signing with the New York Jets according to his agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Perriman will reportedly make $6 million on a one-year deal, and with incentives it could be as much as $8 million.

The former Ravens first round pick notched 36 receptions for 645 yards and six touchdowns playing 645 snaps as the Bucs third receiver.

Tampa Bay was hoping to retain Perriman, but apparently weren’t willing to meet Perriman’s offer from New York.

The Buccaneers have Scotty Miller and Justin Watson sho saw playing time last season to compete for the spot and also re-signed Bryant Mitchell earlier this month. Tampa Bay’s need for another receiver could change their draft strategy, moving the position higher up in their draft plans.

Earlier on Tuesday free agent running back Peyton Barber came to terms on a deal with the Washington Redskins reportedly for two years, $3 million. The Bucs went thought to be interested in signing Barber.
