The Bucs have spent the past few years stockpiling young, developmental interior offensive linemen. Those moves could come in handy this season, with Alex Cappa and Ryan Jensen set to hit free agency. But, on Wednesday, the team made the decision to move on from one of those players. Center Donell Stanley, who spent all season on injured reserve, is being released. The Athletic’s Greg Auman was first to report the news.
Bucs have released center Donell Stanley, who spent the past season on injured reserve after he got hurt in preseason. Also signed tackle Brandon Walton, as we first reported Tuesday.

Stanley originally signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent. He landed in camp with the Bucs last offseason, but suffered an injury. Stanley flashed some in practices at center, but was unlikely to make the final roster, even this season. The Bucs signed tackle Brandon Walton to a futures deal in his place.
It could be a significant offseason of change for the Bucs interior offensive line. Jensen and Cappa could get big offers in free agency, prompting them to leave. That would open two spots in the starting lineup, with center Robert Hainsey and guard Aaron Stinnie the in-house favorites. John Molchon, Sadarius Hutcherson and Nick Leverett will also compete for the job. It’s likely the Bucs could add a more experienced option in free agency too.
