Bucs rookie defensive tackle Logan Hall received a lot of hype over his first summer in the league.
Coaches had plenty to say about him, as did teammate Will Gholston. In an appearance on the Pewter Report Podcast, Gholston had a ton of praise for Hall. He even went as far as predicting six-plus sacks for the rookie in 2022.
So, after all that hype, how is Hall progressing in his first NFL training camp? Bucs head coach Todd Bowles was asked about him after Thursday’s practice, and he said he’s still learning and growing, but his pass-rushing ability is standing out.
“Again, he’s learning the system. He does a good job,” Bowles said. “He’s still learning the run a little bit, some of the things we like to do technique-wise, but his pass-rushing is outstanding, and we really like that in him. But we’re bringing him along slow.”
Addition Of Hicks Allows Bucs To Give Hall Time
Tampa Bay is putting its No. 33 overall pick in a great position. By signing veteran defensive tackle Akiem Hicks, the pressure is off for Hall in his rookie season. He can rotate in, get his feet wet and contribute as a pass rusher. It should do wonders for his development.
The Bucs did something similar in 2021. After drafting Joe Tryon-Shoyinka at the end of the first round, they let him spend his rookie year in the rotation. He played behind Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul, posting four sacks in year one. Now, he’s ready to step in and replace Pierre-Paul as a starter in 2022.
Hall finds himself in a good spot like Tryon-Shoyinka did last year. The University of Houston product has lofty goals for himself in his rookie year. But the good thing is, he doesn’t have to hit those for it to be a successful debut season. As long as Hicks and Gholston stay healthy in front of him, he can play loose and pick up valuable experience. And that can only set him up for bigger things in 2023 and beyond.
