The Bucs task of getting their season back on track might have just gotten a little easier.

The Panthers have officially ruled out quarterback Cam Newton for Monday night’s matchup against the Buccaneers. Newton suffered a concussion last week against the Falcons and has been unable to practice this week.

Of course on paper it seems this gives the Buccaneers an advantage, but Tampa Bay will now face backup Derek Anderson who beat them twice during the 2014 season.

The first time Anderson, a Pro Bowler in Cleveland in 2007, efficiently completed 24 of 34 for 230 yards and two TDs en route to a 20-14 Week 1 win in Raymond James. Newton was out with a rib injury. Then in Week 15, starting after Newton was involved in a bad car accident, Anderson replicated his first performance, throwing for 277 yards and a TD on 25 of 40 completions. The Panthers completed the sweep, beating the 2-12 Bucs 19-17 in Carolina.

Besides Newton being ruled out, the Panthers will also be without left tackle Michael Oher (concussion), running back Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) and cornerback James Bradberry (toe) according to Panthers beat writer Joe Person. Backup defensive tackle Vernon Butler will miss his second consecutive game with a high ankle sprain Person also reported on Saturday.
