The Bucs announced on Wednesday that they’ve signed safety Orion Stewart.

Stewart most recently played for the San Antonio Commanders in the Alliance of American Football, but comes with a little bit of NFL experience. He originally signed with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Baylor in 2017 and later spent time on the Buffalo Bills’ and Washington Redskins’ practice squads throughout the year. Prior to the 2018 season Stewart signed with the New York Giants, but he was released in September and has yet to participate in game action at the NFL level.

Stewart played all four years at Baylor, tallying 244 total tackles with 6.5 going for loss, two sacks, 11 interceptions, 26 passes defended and one forced fumble. He also earned All-Big 12 honors in his senior season.

  1. This is a really good signing. Stewart is a ball hawking playmaker (which the Bucs need desperately), but need some work on tackling.

  2. It never hurts to bring in guys for Camp, you never know what will happen when someone finds the right system and coaches and finally find their potential… They need to be doing this with every Olineman and Linebacker they can find too…

  3. There are a lot of really outstanding players who proved it in the AAF. Thrilled with this signing. San Antonio had a great team who were only one game behind the league leading Apollos. By all means sign up AAF linemen, CBs, and LBs!

  5. The AAF was gonna be such a great thing for the NFL. A chance to let unsigned and practice squad guys prove their worth along with backups that never got their shot. I can’t believe it crumbled so quickly, the NFL really needs to get off their ass and their wallets and create a proper minor league that plays in the spring. So much talent is wasted because of 40 times and size and it is the best way to find the hidden talent…
