The Bucs have suffered a number of injuries to important starters in recent weeks, and their injury report reflects the dismal situation. It doesn’t help that Tampa Bay will play the Eagles on a short week this Thursday night in Philadelphia.

On Monday, Bruce Arians updated the status of inside linebacker Lavonte David, safety Antoine Winfield Jr. and tight end Rob Gronkowski. David was injured in the second quarter of the Bucs 45-17 win over the Dolphins. Arians wasn’t sure if he’d be able to go because of the complexity of recovery.

“It’s a high ankle sprain and each guy is so different,” Arians said. “It doesn’t appear to be heavy swelling. It’s just a matter of when he can run and cut on it. We’ll wait and see.

Winfield Jr. left the game early in the Bucs’ Week 4 win over the Patriots with a concussion, forcing him to miss yesterday’s game. The second-year safety has a more optimistic chance of returning on Thursday, but nothing is certain just yet.

“He was out there today doing more cognitive stuff,” Arians said. “Doing the checks and things like that. I think he can [be ready]. Will he? I don’t know yet. We’ll see how this goes.”

Last but not least is Gronkowski, who suffered broken and fractured ribs in a Week 3 loss on the road against the Rams. He’s missed the last two weeks, but Arians revealed Gronkowski could be seeing the field again soon.

“It’ll be very, very close this week,” Arians said. “We’ll wait and see.”

If none of these players are available, Kevin Minter will replace David at inside linebacker, Mike Edwards will start at safety and O.J. Howard and Cam Brate will continue to share snaps in Gronkowski’s stead.

Arians also made it clear that quarterback Tom Brady should be fine for Week 6 against the Eagles. Brady suffered a minor thumb injury in his dismantling of the Dolphins on Sunday. The injury rendered Brady limited in Monday’s practice.

Unfortunately, the aforementioned injuries were joined with some new maladies on Monday. Among the key additions to the injury report were WR Chris Godwin (limited), C Ryan Jensen (did not participate) and K Ryan Succop (full participant). Here is Monday’s injury report:

The goal is to win another Super Bowl. Let Gronk heal 100%! He’s the engine that gets us out of a lot of thick mud offensively against good defenses. We have Brate and Howard. If we can’t use them well enough, then we need better TE/WR coaches!

For real HD! Let Gronk rest. There is no reason that Beats/OJ can run it this Thursday. There’s two of them! Injuries r a concern for all teams on top of the COVID protocols. The Bucs have some depth, at least at that TE position. Agree also that we need Gronk for the Bills, Panthers, even ATL. I believe Thursday night’s game will be another show of power, and red zone proficiency! AB, Godwin and Mike will all get to eat some on Thursday. Let’s do this!
