While many have jumped off the Jameis Winston bandwagon after the recent news of his three-game suspension for a groping claim by an Uber driver back in 2016, Winston’s Buccaneer teammates are still riding with their quarterback.
Tight end Cameron Brate spoke on Sirius XM NFL radio earlier this week and said he still thinks highly of Winston in these quotes from a Tampa Bay Times post by Greg Auman.

“I would say 100 percent, he is,” Brate said on Sirius XM. “There’s things in his past that I can’t speak of, and obviously don’t know what happened really in Arizona with this Uber incident. But for me, all my experiences, all my interactions with Jameis have been awesome. I’m pretty close with him. We hang out outside of football and everything. I truly do enjoy spending time with him. He’s caring, compassionate, the kind of guy you want to associate yourself with, as far as my experiences with him.
“I can’t speak too much to what’s going on with everything else, because that’s not really the Jameis that I know. For me, I still love him. I think he’s a great teammate and I think I speak for a lot of guys in the locker room with that sentiment.”
Brate joined DeSean Jackson and Kwon Alexander as Bucs teammates who have come out with their public support of Winston since the announcement of a three-game suspension by the NFL for violating their code of conduct.
They are teammmates, wouldn’t expect any other reaction. Winston’s continued status as a Buc is entirely up to the baby Glazers who have made a decade long habit of making very bad decisions. So I expect them to continue acting in character and keep Winston a Buc this upcoming season. If the Bucs have a successful season this year, he’ll get a fat second contract and all will be forgiven and forgotten … until he acts in character again. If the Bucs face plant again this season, a new regime will take over and probably make a lot of changes.… Read more »
I just hope that Jameis can control himself sexually. Being a high profile athlete all his life has maybe enabled him to get away with bad behavior. I just hope it is immaturity and not something darker.
If the team starts the season 0-3, we’ll see where his team mates stand. For this team to win any of those 1st 3 games, the new revamped defense and a strong running game will have to hit the ground running.
I don’t think it’s time to beat up the owners and God knows Jameis has to get the message now.
+1
Winston is an embarrassment being the face of the bucs . He has only shown to be average qb with all the weapons and has lied to the team and his fans.. …CUT him !!
Thank goodness you’re not our gm. Hed be picked up the next day and you’d have Fitzpatrick playing QB the whole season. With their jobs in the lines, it’s not happening so get used to seeing number 3 out there this season at least. His play on the field will determine his outcome.
Yeah he won’t get cut, and if he won’t make it pass waivers. As a GM that would basically be putting your faith in Fitzpatrick. Sunshineben you say cut him on every post as if it would actually happen.
I am glad another player gave Winston a character witness.
So many of the fans who want Jameis to be cut are experts on criminal psychology and conspiracy theory and are ready to write Winston off, but not me. He made a small mistake. Everyone who was principally involved is satisfied with the outcome and ready to move on. Take a cue!
I agree it’s time to win some football games!
I don’t get it with these athletes. They can have virtually any women they want (i.e. Walt Chamberlain). Why do they have to mess around with sexual harassment? Jameis shouldn’t get married if he is some type of sexual addict (e.g. Tiger Woods). Just stay single and play the field. SMH.
No you don’t get it. Nothing likely happened. Even Kate the pictureless said he grazed me – it later became groped. She’s embellishing for money… No evidence no proof…. never filed charges because it likely doesn’t rise to the level of sexual battery which is a misdeamnor and likely plea bargained down from that.
Big Ben was accused of actual rape and he’s a league star. Get perspective.
Do you have a source for the assertion that Kate has changed her story? I’ve never seen anything suggesting that. Every source I’ve heard from has said from day one that Kate reported Jameis to Uber because he grabbed her crotch. If there’s different information out there, I’d like to see and evaluate it. Please share.
They can be found elsewhere, but the easiest way to find the incident report and what appears to be a text from the driver to a friend, both on Mar 13, 2016, is to google “buzzfeed jameis uber twitter” and then go to images.
I’m talking in generalities. In the case of Winston, let’s not fool ourselves, he is no choir boy. He said, “don’t judge me by my words, just my actions”. Well, his history and actions paint a clear picture for me.
It’s incredible how the opinions are based on virtually no information except the person’s previously held perception of a young man they’ve never met. Here we have a teammate who has actually spent time with Jameis and certainly knows him better than any of us. Yet there are those who scoff at Brate’s defense of his friend instead of considering it.
Well….welcome back Naplesfan in to the fray. He strongly supported that lazy Chris Baker but never admitted he was a bad choice and now jumps back on the band wagon of Winston negativity. Now he is also piling on to bashing the Glazers. It makes you wonder why these Negative Nacy’s even consider themselves fans. I think they only flourish in the negative realm.
