As the Bucs continue to bring in draft prospects on visits, they’ve turned their attention to quarterback. Tampa Bay is hosting South Dakota State quarterback Chris Oladokun for a workout on Thursday, according to Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson.
It’s considered a local visit for the Bucs as Oladokun is a Tampa native. He played his football at Sickles High School and also transferred from USF and Samford before landing with South Dakota State.

Entering The Transfer Portal
Oladokun is an athletic quarterback listed at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds. He didn’t receive much playing time at USF, playing in eight games. In that time he completed 23 passes for 297 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. At Samford, he started in nine games and played in 19. His best year there was in 2019 where he threw for 2,064 yards on 169 completions with 18 touchdowns. As a runner, he ran 127 times for 493 yards and eight scores. His top game at Samford came when he combined for seven touchdowns, throwing six of them and rushing for another.
Oladokun finally got his big break once transferring to the Jackrabbits. In 2021, he passed for 3,164 yards and 25 touchdowns on just seven interceptions. He rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns and even caught two receiving touchdowns as well. Oladokun’s highlight moment came when South Dakota State defeated number one seed and future FCS champion North Dakota State during the regular season. He took his team to the semifinals of the FCS playoffs before losing to Montana State.
Along with his mobility, Oladokun has a strong arm that would be a fit in the Bucs’ vertical type of offense. He has met with the Steelers, Bears and Cardinals along with his meeting with the Bucs, according to Wilson. Oladokun is considered a late-round pick on Day 3 of the draft, or potentially an undrafted free agent.
The Bucs QB Room
It’s interesting to see the Bucs work out a quarterback given their roster. Tom Brady is back, Kyle Trask is in year two and they just re-signed Ryan Griffin. On top of that, there is still the likelihood that backup Blaine Gabbert returns for another season. If taken by the Bucs, Oladokun could compete with Ryan Griffin for a spot on the practice squad as a developmental project. More than likely, Oladokun is a candidate to be signed on a try-out deal after the draft to perform at the team’s rookie mini-camp.
