As the Bucs continue to bring in draft prospects on visits, they’ve turned their attention to quarterback. Tampa Bay is hosting South Dakota State quarterback Chris Oladokun for a workout on Thursday, according to Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson.

It’s considered a local visit for the Bucs as Oladokun is a Tampa native. He played his football at Sickles High School and also transferred from USF and Samford before landing with South Dakota State.

Entering The Transfer Portal

Oladokun is an athletic quarterback listed at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds. He didn’t receive much playing time at USF, playing in eight games. In that time he completed 23 passes for 297 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. At Samford, he started in nine games and played in 19. His best year there was in 2019 where he threw for 2,064 yards on 169 completions with 18 touchdowns. As a runner, he ran 127 times for 493 yards and eight scores. His top game at Samford came when he combined for seven touchdowns, throwing six of them and rushing for another.

Oladokun finally got his big break once transferring to the Jackrabbits. In 2021, he passed for 3,164 yards and 25 touchdowns on just seven interceptions. He rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns and even caught two receiving touchdowns as well. Oladokun’s highlight moment came when South Dakota State defeated number one seed and future FCS champion North Dakota State during the regular season. He took his team to the semifinals of the FCS playoffs before losing to Montana State.

Along with his mobility, Oladokun has a strong arm that would be a fit in the Bucs’ vertical type of offense. He has met with the Steelers, Bears and Cardinals along with his meeting with the Bucs, according to Wilson. Oladokun is considered a late-round pick on Day 3 of the draft, or potentially an undrafted free agent.

The Bucs QB Room

It’s interesting to see the Bucs work out a quarterback given their roster. Tom Brady is back, Kyle Trask is in year two and they just re-signed Ryan Griffin. On top of that, there is still the likelihood that backup Blaine Gabbert returns for another season. If taken by the Bucs, Oladokun could compete with Ryan Griffin for a spot on the practice squad as a developmental project. More than likely, Oladokun is a candidate to be signed on a try-out deal after the draft to perform at the team’s rookie mini-camp.

Another sign that the Bucs think Trask sucks.

I agree, and it tells me all I need to know about how the Bucs feel about Trask.

Neither of you can actually believe that despite how much you want to because you hate Trask so much. Letting a local kid come in doesn’t effect their 42 tryouts and a Day 3/Undrafted possible walk on troyout happens every year either to find a Practice Squad guy or the slim chance he balls out. It almost never has anything to do with the actual lineup. Nice try though 😂

Let me get this straight… Having a visit with a late round or UDFA project QB says something about how they feel about a QB they spent a 2nd round pick on last year?… who, by the way, they’ve had nothing but positive things to say about, and who appears to be slotted for our backup QB this year… What the hell have you been smoking?

You obviously didn’t watch last week’s media interview with Licht who was extremely high on Kyle Trask, and when asked about bringing back Gabbert for this season, the only thing positive Licht would say about Gabbert is that he did a good job last year, along with Ryan Griffin, in getting Kyle Trask ready to play.

If you can’t figure out those most obvious of tea leaves, then you and drdneast need a crash course in comprehending plain English.

That’s a stretch. A visit with a late round QB means they think Trask sucks? Maybe it means they want to have a deep QB room like smart teams do. Jeezus.
Incidentally, I’ve seen no indication that they think Trask sucks. They haven’t signed Gabbert. It looks for right now that they may be planning for Trask as #2.
Apparently, you think Trask sucks and are looking for indications that the team shares your opinion. Sorry, this visit isn’t that.

What it means is the Bucs have three quarterbacks on the roster today, and usually enter training camp with four quarterbacks to provide reps for all the extra camp bodies. Every year. So the obvious reading of this is that Gabbert is not coming back this season. Which is pretty much what Jason Licht said last week when a media interviewer asked him if the Bucs want to bring back Gabbert for another season, and the ONLY positive thing that Licht said about Gabbert was, and I quote, “Well, he and Ryan Griffin did a pretty good job last season… Read more »

Another sign that drdneast sucks. Complete inability to read and comprehend a post, lost in his own delirious hallucinations.

You sure dig deep in the cesspool for any morsel of crap to fit your worn out narrative. This says absolutely nothing about Kyle Trask and you know it. Dude knows it too.

They will probably sign an undrafted QB for training camp to bring the total to four. If they believe in Trask, he is slated now as the second QB and they will not resign Gabbert. If they sign Gabbert, I think that will be telling of their confidence in Trask.

Resigning Gabbert still isn’t an automatic diss on Trask. Trask redshirted last year, this year they should have him dress and learn on the sidelines from Brady and possibly Gabbert and then after Brady leaves (whenever that is) we will get the official showdown. They aren’t rushing it because there’s no need. This year he gets to soak up the knowledge and if he’s got a chance then he gets to prove it down the road. I’m not some diehard Trask Fan, I not an actual Gators Fan, I just hope he ends up being any good just because it… Read more »

Not only that, but Jason Licht did not even mention as a possibility last week that there would be any kind of quarterback competition between Gabbert and Trask, something that big Gabbert-fan Bruce Arians explicitly endorsed in interviews earlier this off-season. It’s clear that Gabbert is unlikely to return.

I’d be hesitant to say Gabbert will be re-signed this season. Jason Licht was completely non-committal about that when asked in a group media interview last week. The only thing Licht would say about Gabbert was that he did a good job preparing Kyle Trask to play in the NFL. He said the same thing about Ryan Griffin. Do we really need three quarterback mentors for one second year quarterback who’s never played a snap .. particularly when one of the other two is the GOAT. Remember it was Bruce Arians who was really high on Gabbert, and he’s no… Read more »

Aaaaand Gabbart has been signed to another one year deal to return with the Bucs. So multiple comments you made on this story have proven to be incorrect. But hey, at least you remembered to insult people in the process. It’s hilarious how you degrade people who disagree with you and then you turn out to be totally wrong. Will an apology to drdneast and buccaneerNW be forthcoming?

I don’t know why it becomes so personal for some. FSU vs Gators more than anything probably. I immediately HOPED that drneast was wrong because I am a Gators fan and thought Trask really showed out his Senior year. Threw more TDs than the 2nd year QB who just went to the Super Bowl. (Burrows) for some. Maybe they signed Griffin because Gabbert was still trying to be a starter somewhere and now they will release Griffin. Still doesn’t necessarily mean anything concrete. Trask still has another offseason which proved to help in College The lights GO ON for different… Read more »

Side Note: Just realized that 7 years ago the big question was Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariotta to the Bucs with the 1st overall pick. Now they will start for 2 of our Rivals. This Division SHOULD be cake for this roster. Just better now than the rest of the NFC south, plus they are adding our garbage. Me thinks we were a year early on the 17-0 talk.
If they do get aggressive this draft and give up picks 4-6 for the right guys, and we resign Suh and JPP etc. LOOK OUT.
