The Bucs have selected Houston linebacker Grant Stuard with the 259th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Included in one of Pewter Report’s Bucs Mock Drafts this offseason, below is what Scott Reynolds wrote about Stuard.

“Stuard was a two-year starter for the Cougars and was a high-energy, tackling machine,” Reynolds said. “He’s more of a college football star than he is an NFL linebacker, as he has some limitations in coverage and in the box due to his size. Stuard had the shortest arms of any defender at the Senior Bowl at 29.5 inches, and his 73-inch wingspan was the smallest in Mobile, Ala. That will surely drop him to the seventh round, as tackling could be an issue at the next level.”

Stuard is worth a look because the Bucs special teams was dreadful last year. Not a bad pick up as the last pick of the draft. Might even make the roster opening day or stick around on the PS all season.

  • NFL.com says this on his draft profile page. “Doesn’t smell a rat, losing coverage focus on play-action.” lol

To be fair, that statement has been/could be used on practically every defensive player from the 4th round on… there’s a reason they’re drafted that late lol. That said, love the juice and hope to see him stick and bring that energy to ST, and the team in general. Pulling for the kid.

A certain “Mr. Irrelevant” is now getting fitted for a Superbowl ring with the Bucs, Ryan Succup.

I’ve just taken a closer look at this guy as a player and a person. Just watched his post draft interview.
He looks like a real “diamond in the rough”. He might even be as rare as the Hope Diamond. 🤗
He is going to contribute to our winning franchise. I predict he wil be a super “blue collar” favorite for our Tampa Bay fans!

Undrafted rookies make the team every year across the NFL. IDC if stuard was a 7th rounder, he can play. He lights people up and plays much faster than his 4.75 40. Hes a football player to it’s definition.
