Just days before Tampa Bay’s playoff game at Washington on Saturday night, the Buccaneers activated outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett from the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Barrett missed the season finale against Atlanta on Sunday as a result of being on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, but didn’t test positive.
Tampa Bay also signed linebacker Deone Bucannon to the team’s practice squad and released guard Nick Leverett from the practice squad.
Bucannon (6-1, 211) is back with the Bucs after signing with the team last year. He has played in 84 career games, making 57 starts, playing both linebacker and safety over his career. Bucannon has recorded 420 career tackles (28 for loss), 15 quarterback hits, 12 passes defensed, seven sacks, seven forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and two interceptions.
He entered the league as a first-round pick (No. 27 overall) by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2014 NFL Draft out of Washington State. Bucannon played five seasons in Arizona (2014-18) before splitting the 2019 season between the Buccaneers and New York Giants.
With Devin White out for Sunday’s wild card playoff game due to COVID-19, Bucannon has been signed for veteran depth.
Doin everything they can to be as ready as possible.
I remember this guy. He was touted as the next Honey Badger last year and he played like two or three games and was waived.
This move might be because Minter and David’s combined pass coverage was do poor.
Could the Bucs be planning a dime package with Bucannon involved?
Good depth move, these guys will fill in well enough for White until next week.
The more I think about the upcoming wild game the more I am convinced the Bucs need to go to a short passing game or they will suffer the same results they did against the Chiefs and the Saints. I hope our coaching staff is smart enough to realize that.
There have been several match ups this season where Bucs could have won (IMO) if they had started the game with short passing high percent stuff then took shots later. Like you said Saints games were like that for sure. Should have won Bears game too. Had no time to throw. If Arians and staff don’t adjust and we lose this game in same fashion then I’m fine with Arians gone if I’m honest. There is enough talent on that offense with right play calling to advance deep into playoffs.
If the Buc’s lose their 1st playoff game they have been in since like forever you are okay with Bruce Arians being fired…..sheesh
Have you watched the past 4 games? lots of short passes to the WR’s . Especially to AB and Godwin.
White not playing is a sham. 1 day difference in the Covid protocol is ridiculous. The latest CDC data is also evidence of the perpetrated sham. There were no more total deaths in America in 2020 than in any other year. Covid merely replace influenza. People got sick? Yes. Two friends were in the hospital last year this time with pneumonia caused by flu. Both are asthmatic.
