Gerald McCoy has been a topic of discussion for months as his future with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers remains in question.

Since being drafted by the Bucs in 2010, McCoy has been a cornerstone on Tampa Bay’s defense for a decade and put together an impressive résumé that includes 54.5 sacks, 79 tackles for loss, 140 quarterback hits and six consecutive Pro Bowl appearances between 2012 and 2017.

But as an aging defensive tackle, on a team that’s strapped for cap space with his presumable replacement of the future coming via a first-round selection in 2018, and who’s scheduled to earn $13 million this coming season, it’s understandable why his future with the Bucs could be reevaluated.

One thing McCoy wants everyone to avoid questioning, however, is his work ethic, and he made that loud and clear through his Instagram story on Sunday.

In the video, McCoy appears to be fresh out of a workout and shows that he’s even got his kids at the gym with him, calling himself an, “All-Pro on and off the field.”

McCoy may be sporting a different color scheme than red and pewter in 2019, the only palette he’s known since leaving Oklahoma, with this video he fires back at fans and critics who have doubted his work ethic or love for the game.

People are being too hard on McCoy. McCoy has been a very good player for this franchise. Comparing him to great players like Sapp or Brooks is too much.

I just wish McCoy would tune this out and don’t let it bother him IMO.

Boo hoo who cares. Suck it up and let your play show you still have something if you do. Remains be seen imo. He’s not a lot better than average at this point to me. Maybe a bit. He may have good work ethic but he doesn’t have fire for winning or deep hate for losing. Wish him well nice guy for sure.

Love McCoy for the player that he has been on and off the field. But hes always been a little soft when it comes to his critics. It unfortunately comes with the job , but it clealry gets to him.

I am not doubting the reality of this statement: “his presumable replacement of the future coming via a first-round selection in 2018″…however,

when asked this precise question, Jason Licht went on and on (as was reported right here on PR) that he absolutely did NOT draft Vea as a 3T, and absolutely did NOT take him to be the eventual replacement for McCoy.

I guess that represents one of the nails somewhere in the Licht coffin…

Why we are ushering him out the door when we have little to no talent waiting in the wings, i have no idea. At worst, he is the 3rd best player on our defense. This is why we struggle year after year after year. We never learn that we should keep the good players and replace the bad ones.

I haven’t read one word on if the Bucs have even tried to restructure McCoy’s contract. We would be a much better team with Mcoy on the roster. So Pewter Report, Are the Bucs even trying to restructure his contract and is he open to it?

@artpac GMC’s being ushered out because he’s not good any more. Bruce Arians is not lying or saying those things about Gerald as a Jedi Mind Trick. Use your eyeballs and watch #93 in any game over the last two years. He doesn’t make ANY impact.

He is soft as hell when tackling. He’s always falling down or running himself out of a play.

“The bigger they are, the harder they fall” was a reference to Cam Newton by Devin White, I know. But McCoy’s ego is so big and I personally foresee a big fall for him no matter where he plays. Please just cut him. I don’t care anymore about getting something in return. For an organization who drafted Devin White in part due to his leadership ability, let McCoy go now so that D White hits the ground running in rookie minicamp. I’m sad and disappointed we couldn’t win games here on the Bucs with McCoy in the trenches, but it… Read more »

Slapboxing in a gym is now considered work? hahahahahahahaha Maybe slapboxing will translate into something meaningful on Sundays, but my doubt runs VERY deep. Instead he could be practicing: 1. Wrapping up and making a tackle. 2. Blocking/tipping passes. 3. Getting up after falling down(again). 4. Going toward the QB and not the other way. 5. FINISHING plays. Oh, and dragging 2 (out of 5) of your small children to an empty basketball court on a Sunday morning and having them sit on the floor doesn’t make you a “All Pro” dad. It just makes you a regular dad who… Read more »

I so wished my Bucs would have handled the GMC situation with much better class. People forget, For a long while, GMC pulled the defensive load when we had virtually nobody on Defense. Prior to all of this, A deal should or could have been reached. But now it festers..out in the open and the longer it goes,I fear the worse the outcome is going to be. GMC probably is not worth 13 mil. But we are paying an offensive lineman 10 mil this year. And GMC is much better than him..I think. Now its like bad feelings out there.… Read more »

I said McCoy was a good player, not a great player. I didn’t say he was what he was 5 years ago. But he is an above average DT. How many Bucs can we say that about? David? Evans? Marpet? Of course he isn’t worth 13 million, but he is probably worth 8. And I would much rather have him than whoever Licht would bring in, because, let’s face it, the free agent signings have sucked.

I don’t understand the thinking and the comments that Gerald McCoy is still an above average DT. Last year he was pretty average for DTs in the NFL, maybe even below average as whatever pass rush he can generate is typically negated for his inability to aid in stopping the run. Only 17 solo tackles last year and only 6 TFLs last year in 14 games. He is not an above average DT in this league anymore.

All I am going to say is that I really would prefer to see what McCoy can do in Bowles system. I think McCoy still has something left in the tank.

Remember the number of snaps McCoy has had to play during his time in Tampa is unheard of on other NFL teams. McCoy having less snaps but part of nickel packages intrigues me greatly.

I have no doubt he has an incredible work ethic. That is not the point. He is going to get paid 13 million this year and there isn’t enough room to pay him and all the draft picks. It might be time for Licht and management to have a heart to heart with all the highest paid guys but especially McCoy. I want his skill set, but not at that price, after 10 years.

Pretty genius move by McCoy on Instagram. “I’m an all-pro on the field and an all-pro dad!” He’s definitely trying to sway public opinion and put pressure on the Bucs to make an official decision sooner than later.

Pewter Report, I heard Ron & Ian talking about how JPP allegedly called out GMC for not being what he thinks he is or something like that in the locker room last season and GMC didn’t respond. Why have we never heard this?

Well, it looks like we might be keeping McCoy after all. Bleacher report said that JPP might be our all year with a neck injury. I swear this team is fucking cursed. Unreal and unsettling. It’s probably why McCoy hasn’t been released yet.

No NFL player should have to motivate or inspire any other NFL player! That’s BS! Your in the NFL making millions! That should be Motivation enough! Be a man and do your own job! Do you need a little pep talk or someone to hold your hand to do your job? I would hope your faith , family and bills are enough motivation for any man! Grow up haters.how about the owner and GM got the man some help over the past 9 years and not wasted his career!! Rate this item:Thumb UpThumb DownSubmit Rating00 No votes yet. Please wait...

Good point @goldsonages. Think they wanted to rework his contract initially. But I can’t tell if this Instagram thing is more toward fans or more because of BA comments. I would think he would’ve felt good since we didn’t draft Oliver. Seems more like the end of the GMC/Bucs marriage now, to me.
