The Bucs have been relatively fortunate when it comes to the injury front during training camp. However, rookie center Robert Hainsey has been out for the last three practices with an undisclosed injury. Donell Stanley has taken Hainsey’s place with the second-team offense this week.

“It’s day-to-day right now,” Bucs head coach Bruce Arians said when asked about Hainsey’s future availability. “Hopefully it’s sooner rather than later.”

Hainsey, the team’s third-round pick, has taken every snap at center since camp began after playing right tackle at Notre Dame. Running with the second unit, he has shown to be more than capable at his new position. For someone who has never played the position before, Hainsey has grasped the position quickly. He has looked comfortable snapping the ball in the transition from tackle to center.

When Ryan Jensen has missed practice, Hainsey has run with the first team and performed admirably.

“I’d say for me the biggest difference is moving in and out of my stance and having a parallel stance,” Hainsey said. “Especially coming from tackle, you’re used to a pretty large stagger whichever way you need to go, so that’s the biggest thing for me.”

Arians offered a positive report on Hainsey early during camp.

“Yeah, other than the first snap of the practice I thought he had a really, really good practice,” Arians said at the beginning of camp. “He was solid and did a really fine job a couple of times pulling and getting up on people. Identifications were good. It was a really solid day for him. He’s getting better and better.”

The quickest way to continue Hainsey’s development is to get him back out on the field. The rookie has been working on his pass sets on air off to the side by himself during the past three practices. Hopefully the Fighting Irish product can return in time for preseason action against the Bengals next Saturday.

Why is it undisclosed? Odd.

Because they don’t have to disclose injuries until the regular season.

They need to get into the habit of it. With the Tom Brady situation, you would think they would like to give the appearance of conforming to the NFL rules even it is not necessary now. Brady could get suspended and they could lose draft picks too.

They are, no team discloses anything during camp. That’s just the way it is. As far as Brady goes, fear not, there were no problems last year and I don’t think you’ll see any this year. Don’t get caught up in the hype. It’s just a ploy to try and force people into vaccinations. Besides, getting vaccinated doesn’t seem to stop people from still getting the china virus and spreading it anyway, so why risk your health over it?
