Bucs Practice Buzz is a weekly segment on Pewter Report’s YouTube channel Pewter Report TV where we highlight the biggest moments and clips from the day of practice from the Advent Health Training Center.

The Bucs returned from a mini-bye after earning their first win of the season last Thursday. What’s been working for this team is that their defense is rounding into form, especially in the secondary. There was a lot of praise for rookie nickel Keionte Scott, outside corner Jacob Parrish and strong safety Tykee Smith for various reasons.

Head coach Todd Bowles called Keionte Scott one of their best players this season, while acknowledging that Parrish has been this great of a player since a season ago. And with Antoine Winfield Jr. out of the lineup, it’s been Smith that’s picking up more assignments. And what do these players all have in common? They’ve all played the nickel in this defense.

Those responsibilities don’t get any easier with facing future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers this weekend. Todd Bowles spoke about it being a nightmare having to game plan for him in this game.

Tampa Bay’s offense needs to figure who’s going to play quarterback for the game. There was an update about what’s going on with Baker Mayfield and if he’ll be able to throw. Should it end up still being backup Jalon Daniels, he’s learned a great deal through two starts.

Of course, Daniels won’t be doing this alone as he got a lot of help from running back Bucky Irving last game. That included a huge chunk play and better performances from the offensive line.

Tampa Bay must continue to stack wins, and hopefully getting their first win can provide a spark. What’s been told about this team ais that they’re bought in as a unit.
