The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made a trend of the 2018 new year by signing their own guys. That continued on Thursday as the team came to terms with defensive end Will Clarke.

Clarke was previously with the Cincinnati Bengals for three seasons before joining the Bucs last season. Clarke notched 2.5 sacks from the defensive end position, which was good for most on the team from the position groups.

He’s been brought back for his versatility and for familiarity depth on the defensive line.

  4. With the Bucs not being successful at developing a solid 4-3 defensive line is it time to convert to a 3-4?
Roquan Smith would be a great addition to a 3-4 and is listed as a likely 8or 9 pick, so the Bucs taking him at #7 wouldn’t be a reach and provide insurance if and when Kwon Alexander leaves.

        • Highly, highly doubtful. If anything, you’ll probably see David depart before Kwon, being that he’s 28 already and Kwon’s just turning 24 in August.

  5. I hear Poe’s going to the Panthers. Can they at least one name free agent, I’ll settle for Jensen the center, move Marpet back to guard, that would be something, right?

  6. I am not against bringing back Clarke. But this is a type of signing that should’t happen the first week in free agency and should happen in the following weeks. If this is the direction the Bucs want to go might as well resign McDonald and keep Ayers.

Still looking for fresh new talent to be added at DE and along the OL.

Which is great if we were good, but we weren’t. So how is this going to help?

  9. He had good production last year compared to everyone else we had. I’m looking forward to seeing what difference Buckner is going to make with the players we already had. He seems to be able to get the most production out of guys under him so let’s give him a chance to work his magic.

  10. Can Licht please cut Ayers and make some moves in our secondary. I know we still have the draft coming. But nothing will change if we do not bring in new talent on defense. He needs to open his eyes and let Conte, Tandy, and Grimes all walk. Then use that money on Gaines and Vaccaro. Or Gaines and Boston. Licht may be out after this year if he doesnt make significant changes he is already 22-42 in 4 year…………

    • Sackless Gholston should go before Ayers.

    • In Licht’s defense, if I remember correctly, in his first two years Lovie was in control of the players/roster. So I think you have to take those two years of losses out of his record. Which is more than half of them. But I could be wrong.

I think Licht is doing a pretty good job. He’s managed to find us at least two, maybe as many as four players, through the draft who could end up being in the Bucs Ring of Honor one day. That is unless a career ending injury happens to any of them. Licht has also managed to keep the Bucs out of trouble with the cap, get our good players signed to long term deals, and he’s not afraid to take some risks. Sure not all risks work out, but that’s because they are risks. If you want to get ahead in this league, you have to have the balls to take some risks. Nobody gets ahead by not taking chances. You just stay where your at, maybe go up a bit, or down a bit, but nothing to big is going to happen.

  11. Maybe Licht is thinking that Buckner is some defensive line magician and is going to fix all the problems.

  13. Likely when Licht proved how inept he was in Free Agency his first year here, he excused it all by telling the Glazer boys that you have to build your team through the draft, because I heard one of the Glazers on Sports Radio this week justifying their poor showing in this year’s Free Agency by Licht, by saying “Our conclusion is you build best through the draft.” Guess they never noticed that the Eagles were heavy participants in Free Agency last year and that allowed them to win the Super Bowl!!! The other teams in our Division know that secret too as does the rest of the NFL and they have been cleaning up in Free Agency this year while Licht sat on his rear. The Glazers deserved what they got when they hired a Nomad Scout and promoted him to GM. Next year they need to hire a proven GM who wins in Free Agency, the Draft, and on the field as a result. Believe me they have the money to do it. If not sell the Bucs to the owner of the Lightening. Stop trying to follow the owner of the Rays get filthy rich model at the expense of fleasing and disgusting the fans!!!
