im suprised they cut the center. thought they were high on him?
I am surprised by the Gottschalk cut too. I thought they would have cut C Josh Allen as they did last year. I’m guessing here but they may have told him to put on weight during the offseason and he showed up for Phase 1 workouts kinda light in the britches – he only weighed 293lbs. They kept C James Stone who is even smaller at 291lbs. Obviously I’m stabbing in the air here, but I would not be surprised if we saw this guy again as a Buc (hopefully not as a Saint or Panther).
Gottschalk was probably cut because he blew out his knew against the Chiefs last year and hasn’t recovered enough to be seriously competitive in training camp. Unless the Bucs have a lot invested in you, in draft position or in salary, they aren’t going to keep you on the roster if you aren’t healthy going into the season. It’s unfortunate for him because by all accounts he looked like a player with some upside. Maybe if/when he gets healthy they can bring him back if they haven’t found an equal or better prospect at center.
As you suspected.

Bucs’ Ben Gottschalk is listed as being waived with a failed physical. Went on injured reserve in November with a knee injury …
Maybe a little unexpected that the odd man out is Gottschalk ,but a quick look at the roster still shows five centers. I feel bad for my friend Horse. As hard I as looked, I could never see what Horse was seeing. Perhaps he was not able to also play guard. Hopefully he finds another opportunity.
There’s usually one of these undrafted free agents who surprises. Looking forward to Training Camp to see which one grabs my attention. My friend Pink has a keen eye so I’m anxious for his take.
Scubog; Before Gottschalk got injured he was better than Hawley and E. Smith. If Ali doesn’t play Center then we have the same problem as last season with the middle being manhandled by the other teams defense.
As the Bucs get better it will be a lot more difficult for UDFA TO make the team. 2 moves still bother me one by Mark D. When he let M Benett WALK after he led the team in sacks, because he wanted Bowers to play we got ABSOLUTELY nothing for Bennett!!
The other was trading Zuttah for a 5th. Both went on to have PBowl seasons
