The news continues to pour in after the shocking revelation that Todd Bowles is the new Bucs head coach. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Bowles is getting a brand new five-year deal along with it. The contract was finalized this morning.
Buccaneers are doing away with the remaining two years on Todd’ Bowles’ defensive coordinator contract and are giving him a new five-year, head-coaching contract, league source tells ESPN.

Bowles previously signed an extension in August of last year’s training camp that made him the highest paid defensive coordinator in the league. He interviewed for head coaching positions, but ultimately still got a raise. For the second year in a row Bowles gets a pay increase, and this time it comes with a promotion.
The wheels have been in motion since a shockwave of announcements were made. Bruce Arians moved into a front office role and Bowles got the second head coaching gig of his NFL career. The five-year contract gives Bowles an opportunity to work while the Bucs are still in “win now” mode, and also handle the team whenever the post-Tom Brady era arrives.
Next up for Bowles, besides the NFL Draft in April, is deciding who will take his role as defensive coordinator. Ian Rapoport reported before that the most likely scenario is that inside linebacker coach Larry Foote or defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers will split responsibilities.
Foote is transitioning from outside linebacker coach to inside linebacker coach this year. Rodgers was the defensive coordinator with the Jets when Bowles was at the helm. While each coach had connections to either Bowles or Arians from previous teams, neither Foote or Rodgers started working together until coming onto the Bucs staff.
