Gotta wonder a bit. It's only a one year deal. He couldn't get a one year deal with the Bucs? I guess if I'm a late round pick who may only play a few years I'm taking the biggest offer. A half a mil or something doesn't seem like a lot when you are talking about all the money thrown around this time of year, but for the depth guys you have to get while the gettings good. But still it's kind of mystifying that Izien didn't come back to the Bucs with the Lions offer to see if they would match it.The #Lions have agreed to terms with former #Buccaneers S/slot CB Christian Izien on a one-year deal, his agent @AgentAndySimms tells The Insiders.
Looks like we lost another FA.
Too bad I like Izien
With the signing of Killebrew it means that Izien lost his edge with position flexibility as a safety. JJ Roberts looked promising as a nickel and I suspect the Bucs will be drafting another boundary CB so Izien lost his roster spot advantage due to his versatility.
[Tom Pelissero] Veteran DL Al-Quadin Muhammad is visiting the Bucs, per source.
Overall Defensive Grade: 74.3 (Ranked 30th out of 115 qualifying Edge Defenders)
Sacks: 11.0 (tied for 11th in the NFL)
Age: 30
He was signed to a one-year contract. If he can have the same production as this past season, I will be very happy.
The Glazers refusal to go this route shows they care nothing about winning, their obvious goal is to keep this team in the realm of mediocrity as long as they can to then market meaningless division championships as actual success. They've been doing it for years.
The Glazers care about winning. If not, they would not have gone and gotten Brady.
I think the cap issues post-Brady were a problem. However, the coaching ineptitude that was shown by Bowles should have prevented an extension. That move I don't understand.
The Glazers brought in Brady because of his name, it was a money move. They had no clue if he had anything left and didn't care. They used him to rope season ticket holders into renewing for two season instead of one.
You aren't serious about winning if you bring back Todd Bowles as your coach, there's nothing to even debate about this. It's bad enough he was retained, choosing him as your HC instead of one of the best young coaches in the NFL makes it even worse. No, they very clearly do not care about winning. They care about money and do a terrible job of hiding it.

Solid addition but Chubb was 3m more per year over 3 years so...

Do you think Chubb was interested in the Buccaneers and they did not offer him enough money, or that he was not interested in the Buccaneers?

Players the Buccaneers signed after getting Brady.
- Rob Gronkowski (TE): Acquired via trade from the New England Patriots on April 21, 2020.
- Leonard Fournette (RB): Signed on September 6, 2020, after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- Antonio Brown (WR): Joined the team on October 27, 2020, as a late-season addition to the receiving corps.
- LeSean McCoy (RB): Signed a one-year deal on July 30, 2020, to provide veteran depth in the backfield.
- Joe Haeg (OL): Reached an agreement on March 21, 2020, just one day after Brady signed, to improve offensive line depth.
- Ryan Succop (K): Signed on September 1, 2020, eventually replacing Matt Gay.
- A.Q. Shipley (C): Signed on August 27, 2020, to provide experienced depth on the interior offensive line
I think they brought in people because they thought they had a chance with Brady.
Nah. Not buying all that. You don't not resign your own free agents because your planning to draft somebody. Izien was a minor player but no I'm not buying it. Part of Hall and Izien being gone is that they didn't particularly express a strong interest in returning. It could just be a matter of money, but there's also the matter of the team sucking last year. It's not a big deal to lose a depth/role player to free agency, but it's perhaps a bad indicator of some serious problems in the clubhouse. Or it could just be the Lions offered a larger contract. Like I said, guys on the lower rungs of the NFL need to get their money while they can. They could be out of the league just like that. Just a knee injury away.Gotta wonder a bit. Here are the remaining edge rushers on the market.
Huff (retiring according to reports)
Reddick - Never know if he returns
Floyd - Looked good for the Falcons
Gross- Matos - Bucs brass might still like him
Bosa - Still hanging out there but his price tag might be too high for teams
Danna - Looks comfortable going downhill in Spagnuolo's scheme might be worth a look
Von Miller - Maybe...
Jordan - Most likely re upping with Saints
Fowler Jr. - Might be worth a look
Epenesa - Can he play in this scheme?
Ogbah - Up there in age but might have something in the tank
Ebiketie - Younger player with upside
I think they brought in people because they thought they had a chance with Brady.
of course they did
And then in 2021 they tried to do it all again

Impossible to know but I'm guessing Licht just wanted a short contract
