Right on cue . . .
"“You know we were pretty close actually when things broke off. We were pretty close — pretty close to where we’re at right now,” Licht said with authority yesterday."
"I think it’s because he really truly just wanted to not worry about [the contract extension], not get worked up over it, not let it be a distraction for himself,” Licht said. “He had a viral moment there; Baker’s not afraid to express his feelings. That’s one of the things when he first got here that Todd [Bowles] and I both told him, ‘You be you.’ So [I] can’t be upset about it.”
So he was being a big baby.
I'd rather be have a chip on his shoulder than whine and get paid but whatever.
You got paid dude so you better perform.
A man asks what he wants and he gets what he asked for isn't being a baby so Mayfield is the one acting like a man. It means he has the fortitude and will power to go after what he wants unapologetically. That is what well adjusted men do is the seek out what they want and Mayfield was focused on what he wanted. Men that are timid like Licht sit back passively like Bowles waiting for things to come. Or Dungy folding his arms.
Now I understand why Arians like Mayfield so much because he isn't a passive bystander as he is pro active and is vocal about accomplishing things and getting things he wants.
Zero fault with Mayfield for seeking what he wanted. The discussion here is about the WAY he went about it
Also, by definition Mayfield did not get "what he asked for" in a compromise. Neither did the Bucs. Thats the meaning of the word.
Licht said the Bucs FO obtained what they wanted along with Mayfield's camp and that is good enough in my book when both sides received what they wanted through this compromise. In a mega blockbuster deal like this both sides received what they wanted.
He asked a for a third, non-guaranteed year? I don't remember that. I feel confident you have the link the back it up, so I'll wait to read about it when you post it.
Licht and Mayfield said they are happy with that outcome I will take their word for it.
He whined in public about his contract negotiations. It was unprofessional and babyish
I watched the interview he was asked a direct question and was giving a direct answer. Vea in comparison does a staged in hold out and says trade me before any negotiations even commenced. No one is calling Vea a baby so why the double standard with Mayfield? Mayfield said I am still going to ball even if there is no contract or talks breaks off. Big difference.

Asking for something and accepting something are two different things.
It's safe to assume you have no link that Baker asked for a third, non-guaranteed year. He did ask for a longer commitment than the two-year, fully guaranteed extension. But he didn't get that longer commitment, because the third year he got is not guaranteed.

Mayfield publicly called out the organization, he didn't simply answer a direct question:
Baker Mayfield has some clear problems with the way the Buccaneers handled negotiating a potential contract extension this offseason, saying he feels “disrespected” and “undervalued” during his Thursday press conference.
But he also took issue with the way the club has handled its negotiations with other players — while also claiming he doesn’t have larger concerns about the franchise.
In his first answer about his contract situation, Mayfield brought up and took up for defensive tackle Vita Vea, who is staging an apparent hold-in after requesting a trade. A pillar of the Bucs’ defense for years, Vea is set to enter the last year of his contract.
"[H]opefully Vita gets his back fixed and gets his deal done,” Mayfield said. “He’s the second-longest tenured Buc behind CG [Chris Godwin] and Vita deserves that. He’s the anchor of our defense. So, I hope they take care of him.”
Mayfield also brought up left tackle Tristan Wirfs’ negotiation from 2024 as a negative example of the Buccaneers’ negotiating style.
“I’ve sat here and watched these guys go through it — even Tristan,” Mayfield said. “So, talk about the best tackle in the league. Only person in NFL history that’s been an All-Pro at right and left, had to have a hold-in in training camp to get it done. So, disappointing. You hope they take care of their guys. But, like I said, it’s going to be a good year.”
Vita Vea didn't have this kind of public, unprofessional outburst. He and his agent requested a trade, definitely after negotiations had happened, and he was roundly criticized for it - including by me.

yes I wasn't saying was good or bad, I was just pointing out the obvious meaning of the word compromise.
The one thing I will say is something I post here often and that is that this stuff is not "rocket surgery." They all know the market so everything is tying back to that and they all have a interest in having it work out when both side prefer to be together. So, 60-70 pages in the $50 million thread when its really "meh" except for the daily drum beat.
He and his agent requested a trade, definitely after negotiations had happened, and he was roundly criticized for it - including by me.
The negotiations were ongoing, obviously, Mr. Local Football Savant . .. who said Vea should honor his contract because "that is how the NFL works"
Good grief Biggs, pick a flippin argument and stick to it.

Correct.

That is a lot of word salad to say you have no arguement.
Licht in the quotes cited in this thread say both sides were happy to tack on that third year and Mayfield said this as well. At this point calling Licht and Mayfield liars or even insinuating this indicates to me you are not arguing in good faith.
He asked a for a third, non-guaranteed year?
Good thing Licht “manned up” to that demand.
Licht never made that initial offer so yes that was the difference which made Mayfield agree to in the end Licht admitted this himself Your defense of Licht has become extremely irrational.

Vea said negotiations and communications were not happening which is why he chose a hold out and then asked for a trade.
Your defense of Licht has become extremely irrational.
Your criticism of Licht has become extremely irrational.
Especially when you’re having to fabricate things to support your incredibly weak argument.
There’s plenty of things to criticize him over without having to make stuff up or ignore actual facts.

Alldaway 2.0 as Baker's agent:
Licht - "We're prepared to offer your client an additional 2-years, fully guaranteed, on top of the current year which we fully guaranteed"
ADW - "That's not good enough. We want longer terms. You're not showing a commitment"
Licht - "How is this not good enough?"
ADW - "We want an additional year. We want security"
Licht - "Umm...okay? How about a 3rd year, but it's not guaranteed. It's essentially a team option?"
ADW - "Now you're talking! About time you manned up!"
Licht - Looking somewhat confused.."Umm...okay."
ADW - Proceeds to pop champagne bottles, celebrating how they got one over on Licht.
Do you see how ridiculous this sounds?
That is a lot of word salad to say you have no arguement.
We are in agreement that your comprehension needs help.
Licht in the quotes cited in this thread say both sides were happy to tack on that third year and Mayfield said this as well.
Of course Licht had no problem adding a third year when it’s not guaranteed. I’m not sure why this is so difficult for you to grasp.

Biggs posting ONLY to argue that someone else is dumb?
