Mayfield was the only reason Bowles remained employed. Could also give credit to Coen and Canales as well but Baker was the constant
Bowles hired each of those guys lol
its interesting that people are so committed to their views on Bowles even when what matters for solving the riddle of why he is the HC in 2026 is what the Owners, GM and even Arians think. Those three have always been 100% in Bowles corner. They may all be wrong but that's a different issue.
Bowles should not be the head coach of this football team, quite frankly never should have been
DEI, right?
The dei stuff is dumb to talk about in 2026 because we have had black coaches before. Now that doesn't mean that the glazers, Licht, and arians have an accurate view of bowles or a great view on who should coach this team. They've made horrible decisions before and then talking about this hire, they have been friends for years and imo you are more likely to see hires from friends than the dei hire in 2026. Both are wrong but I see them looking out for their friend more than doing the right thing for this franchise.
Bowles was an awful hire and people without buc colored glasses understand his faults.

so Bowles choosing coordinators well is a reason to promote him as a good coach? I’m not following. What do you call OC and ST choices last year? What about his decision to continuously not have a high level defensive assist. Only team in league without a DC.
and while you raise a good point of Bowles being DEI, I don’t think the team went that way more so that Arians wanting that.
ultimately Bucs hands were tied because of how Arians handled his retirement. He was staying until Brady returned? Makes no sense if we are to suggest Brady didn’t give him the boot. But Arians wanted Bowles to succeed so that’s why he stepped down when Brady returned?
ok. Either way the process was mismanaged and if Bucs had an actual coaching search, I have a hard time believing Bowles would be the choice

two parts to describe the possible TEAM rationale on Bowles, not to defend Bowles
1. IF you believe all that (in bold) and that sure seems like the way it played out, adding only that Arians was then installed as a VP . . THEN Bowles obviously was not a DEI candidate (lol). He was the senior coordinator of a Super Bowl winning team and that win happened in large part because of the play of his side of the ball. if the HC abruptly retires LATE IN THE OFFSEASON then of course the senior coordinator is the obvious in-house candidate Hiring that person as a HC is hardly an unusual concept in the NFL, especially under those circumstances. If you add in that Brady reversed course, etc and all the bad that flowed from that then its not much of a stretch to imagine the team seeing 2022 shortcomings as sort of "on the team" (ie Brady, Arians etc) and Bowles basically being the "good soldier" who took the HC role without his own coaches, etc. IF that is the bview in 2022 THEN BOY DID BOWLES PROVEM THEM RIGHT because .. . 2023 and 2024 (see #2)
2. IF you believe the part in bold in your quote and #1 . . THEN its pretty easy easy to see THE TEAM seeing Bowles as sort of an unexpectedly good HC because he hired Canales, took Mayfield off the street (when the internal plan was Trask) and that team went to the playoffs and even there made at least a littl;e splash. Enough of a splash to have the OV hire leave for a HC role. All while the team did its FINANCIAL slow rebuild to paydown/off the Brady years. Mirage maybe, but keep in mind the 2023 defense is top 5 scoring defense. Thats with Logan Hall, JTS etc.
In 2024, to the team's eyes . . . Bowles does it all again. He hires Coen. Tykee Smith (the ultimate Bowles player) is a star in the defense etc. Super Bowl hungover fans say :not enough," but do the owners say that? I doubt it.
So when 2025 happens (something I see as Bowles losing the team a bit), its not that hard to see the TEAM giving him a pass because of the injuries and Grizz the IN-HOUSE CANDIDATE. At worse Bowles 2-1 on OCs, needs some help on talent . .. like LVD retiring . .
THE THING IS . . . human beings believe their own views first and foremost EVEN WHEN THEY MIGHT BE WRONG and it takes a lot to shake them from their own views. That is on display here every day lol. But, my point is that it a MAXIM that applies to the Glazers too, of course. Post 2025 collapse they likely saw Bowles (especially with the influence of people like Arians, Licht and Quarels) as DESERVING of the opportunity to right the ship because of everything he did for the team in 2023 and 2024 and, frankly, to "vindicate" their own decision-making about him. All the more so when Licht is guiding the team through older star retirements and saying stuff like Bowles has down well with what he's been given. Fans see Bowles as "killing Tom Brady" (who said that?) and "squandering" (lmao) a "Super Bowl team.' In 2026, that view of 2022, 2023 and 2024 should be almost laughable . . but its not. See prior comment about MAXIM.
One take on Bowles losing the team
"Haden and Harrison pointed fingers at the Tampa Bay head coach.
“That’s a coaching thing,” Haden barked. “You can’t let that be accepted. That starts in practice. That starts in pursuit drills. [Players] didn’t start that in the game; that was happening in practice. You were letting that thing slide.”
Harrison agreed. He added that loafing in the NFL largely is about fatigue — followed by ego preventing players from asking for a sub when they can’t go full speed.
Haden chastised tired players that take a play off to just stay on the field. “Sub out,” he said. “Get off the damn field. Fatigue makes a coward out of everybody.”
Change of speed during a practice play or in a game is the ultimate tell, Haden said. Harrison agreed and again pointed at coaching.
“You are the head coach. You dictate and you make that acceptable or unacceptable by how you practice,” Harrison said.
Both talked about how full buy-in to a head coach is only achieved when every player is called out equally in front all teammates."

Correct. This is why, even with evidence right in front of them, people voted for and still support a known felon/pedophie. “Yeah man, let’s own the libs, even if it means advocating for sex with minors, it will be great….”

Run one of those and you might just win. I mean shit, you ran one that was 'weekend at Bernies' back in 2020 and you won pretty convicingly.

The way he coddled Devin White's sorry ass for years is a perfect example.
He's simply not a good HC.
Didn't deserve the job in the 1st place, then the extension by the Glazers to save face after them fucking up the Coen situation.
It's borderline comical.

Why is Bowles coaching staff smaller than what Arians rolled around with?

Cute! I told you the cult left would turn to gay in 2026! Let me guess gay pedo for 2027? Can’t even imagine what you have in store for 2028!
Not that hard but you just got to ask yourself while your party doesn’t want to win. Newsome would be formidable and currently betting odds to be candidate but will you party allow it with AOC, Harris, and buttipeg being there. Guess we’ll find out
