It's the NFL.  All teams are good.  Even the Panthers, Saints, Cardinals, Giants Colts, Titans, Jags, and Raiders.

in what context?  Yes, if you or I tried out...we would not make the team.  The worst players on those teams are elite compared to the population of Earth

that being said, those teams suck and when comparing to the rest of NFL are not good.  The Bucs should have 4 gimme division wins each year and they still only managed to go 4-2 in the division.  that's not exactly great

2024 - the Bucs went 4-2 in the division and 2 teams were 5-12.  The second best team which swept them was 8-9?  Seriously.  Should have at least been 5-1

2023 - The Bucs went 4-2 in the division with 1 team going 2-15.  Lost 1 game to a 7 win team.  Should have at least been 5-1.

2022 - The Bucs went 4-2 in the division with 3 other teams going 7-10.  Grant it, we rested our starters last week but this year was prevalent as to the only reason we made playoffs was a shit division.

Nobody is measuring Bowles off the 2022 disappointment. It's the progress under Baker for which he is getting measured and forgiven for Brady's forgotten last year.

Having 4 gimme wins and only having to win 10 games to win your division is huge.  It means we need to go 6-7 in the rest of the games...a losing friggen record to make playoffs.  And it was worse in prior years...5-8 was only need 2023 and 4-9 in 2022.

The NFC East division winners had 14 wins and NFC North had 15 last year.  NFC West was ass like ours with 10

in 2023 - all other division winners had 12 wins.  We had 9

in 2022 - West and North had 13 wins while the NFC East had 14 wins.  We had 8

so not sure how else to spin it...but the Bucs have certainly benefited from a weak ass division under Bowles.

think for that to happen, not only will the offense have to be top 5 again which is possible, but the defense will have to vastly improve to a top 10 unit.

As much as the defense seemed to struggle last season they were only something like 1.5 ppg out of the top 10 and maybe 2 ppg worse than tge year before when they were 7th in scoring.

if tte Bucs defense is healthy last year it's probably top 10 so if they are healthy this year they should be top 10

a yards perspective, not as much, we were like 18th overall.  remember, the issue in alot of our losses including our 2 playoff losses under Baker were that the defense couldn't get off the field. Now grant it, i blamed the D for the Lions loss and the O for the Washington loss but still the defense wasn't shut down like it was in the 2020 Super bowl run and we would need that if we want any chance of making the Superbowl

maybe i misspoke with the top 10 rating but in general, we have a ways to go defensively to win or make it to a superbowl. We are talking about a 9,10 win team currently and it wasn't the offense that held the team back last year

when you look at times the offense scored under 21 points.  I think we won 1 game last year compared to 4 in 2023 and 7 in 2022.  The defense while ranking may not have showed it, carried the team in 2022 versus the offense carrying the team in 2024.

I'd rather have Bowles over Campbell.

Smh...

Campbell is going against 3 good teams. Bowles is going against 3 shit teams.

I'm blown away by these takes.

If Campbell has two experienced coordinators, then I'd take Campbell.  Sure he's a motivator and the players love him, but he's never been a coordinator on either side of the ball.  He now has to train two new coaches promoted from within who also have never been coordinators.   You have a veteran team looking to make a Superbowl run and nobody has been a coordinator before.  We'll see how that works out.

Bowles is the DC as well as the HC.  We don't have to worry about the defense regarding that respect at least.  His last two OCs have been hired as HCs.  So the Bucs can be much more confident in their coaching staff than the Lions IMO.  That's the context in which I say I'd rather have Bowles.

I understand that but at the same time Campbell has an extensive tree of contacts to land the coaches he wants because of his resume and as an ex player.

So we shall see.

Well, like the Bucs, he hired from within.  So yes we'll see.  He did hire Aaron Glenn and promoted Ben Johnson when he first came on.  Now he hired from within again.  I'm not predicting doom and gloom for the Lions, but a lot of the success of a HC depends on his ability to hire good coaches.  Campbell will be put to the test because he wasn't a coordinator himself and he will depend heavily on those new guys. I could see the Lions going through some growing pains this year.
