Our ability to compete will come down to one thing. Health. Can we fucking stay healthy.
We don’t need to add a single other player to compete if our current roster is healthy.
Wut
At this point I don't have much respect for any player that chooses to come here. The franchise is a disaster, it has a supremely unqualified and incompetent HC, an ownership group that doesn't care, a terrible defense, an inconsistent (at best) QB, and we just lost our best offensive player with no adequate replacement on the roster. If you choose to come here you're telling me you don't care about winning, and that for you it's all about the money. We have enough of those kinds of losers on the roster already, we definitely don't need more.
This is why a complete rebuild was the only viable solution this offseason. Purge the roster of all the losers, and start fresh with a new front office and coaching staff. A losing culture dominates One Buc and that's not going to change with the same people running things. Any player who chooses to be a part of this mess is not a player we want on this roster.
The Bucs have plenty of starters but a lot of them are average joes and ham and eggers. The Bucs need better than average to win with this coaching staff and some guys that have a nasty streak to them. I mean that is clearly obvious at this point.
As far as the OP's question.
Yes, I think we had too many roster holes last season, and it only got worse in 2026 so far. Is there a chance the Buccaneers strike draft gold? Yes, but that is very, very low IMHO. We have question marks at WR, question marks at TE, question marks on the OL. The entire defense is a gaping hole that your grandmother could pick up 5 yards against. (Well, unless it is a must win game, and the Buccaneers have the lead. Then your grandmother would pick up a 3rd and 28.)
Bucs do not have many roster holes compared to other NFL teams or in this case NFC contenders. If Canales or Coen can walk in and help the Bucs win 1-2 more games that means coaching is the main problem.
Bucs roster needs more difference makers on defense as the offense is SB caliber still even with the loss of Evans. I suspect Licht is going to draft a WR high and a guard to ensure Mayfield is given as much support as possible. Licht is clearly all in with Mayfield by returning Otton and allocating a lot of resources to third down back in KG.
Licht tends to draft replacements for departed free agents a year in advance:
Hall - Roberts
Dean - Morrison and Parrish
Evans - Egbuka
That is why the Bucs right now on offense have all their starters coming back with the exception of Evans.
The departed defensive players have their replacements with one year of on the job training already and in in the building.
A losing culture dominates One Buc and that's not going to change with the same people running things.
I said the winning culture left the minute Tom did.
But, I was adamantly told by one Todd leghumper that it was truly Bowles and Licht that were the ones responsible for the winning culture and not Brady.
Evans seemed to have agreed with you and me.
Without JPP, Suh and Brady it is clear that this coaching staff is rudderless. Bringing back JPP late in the season was a telling sign.

JPP, Suh and Brady? I mean, Barrett, Gronk, AB, Marpet . .
In another thread you're assailing the Bucs for re-signing Otton . . before Otton that chose was Gronk. That gives you some indication how far the talent has gone down on the team. When you combine that with "rudderless" coaching you don't win very much
The Bucs just freed up Evans money. Hendrickson gone, do you think they go get Crosby ;-)

Bucs would be morons to trade for Crosby.
Otton is a drop off from Gronk but it doesn't justify overpaying for Otton. Just because you haven't found a player as good as Gronk doesn't mean you double down on the stupid.
