A top 75 pick yields you the Braswell of the worlds
It also yields you the Winfield Jr.'s, CD3's and Marpets of the world.
who is the 2nd large cap hit after Evans this year so far.
You're right.
Evans being a $13M hit, and Braswell close behind at...checks notes...$670K.
Quite the crunch...
JQs point is that the Bucs couldnt afford Diaby so they might tag/trade. The scenario where that is MOST likely is where Diaby blows up with 10-12 sacks this season. In that scenario there will be many trade partners and the estimated $30m tag would be less than the likely market contract, according to JQ
I dont think JQ's take is even a statement of Diaby's value as much as it is just identifying the market ie a 27M contract now (the market) will be $30 then etc.
I want to see him blow up. I would love that. But you are right, the market is setting itself for him and he is aware of what somebody is willing to pay someone like him. The Bucs have to decide if they are going back to the days of running things on the cheap or as a legitimate contender.JQs point is that the Bucs couldnt afford Diaby so they might tag/trade. Yes, but you can’t pick the wrong guys to spend on, because that’s big money that gets locked up. You have to get it right and spend on the right guys.

That was half a decade ago.
Licht has to do better because he is on thin ice.

Who would be the right guy? Verse or MG?
At some point you have to pay your homegrown players that perform. Diaby performs...McCollum we will see this season if he can perform up to his contract.
Watching some more tape no way Diaby is a 4i. Just because he is bigger OLB than average and plays with power he still too small to play 4i. Kancey is considered small to play 3 technique at this point given Bowles is shifting his preferences with players drafted like Capehart.
Roberts is listed on the Bucs website as the backup to Kancey and he is 15 lbs bigger. Robinson is 320 lbs and Capehart is 315 lbs. Simmons is at 335 lbs.
The thing with Diaby is that if you put a competent edge opposite of him like Bain he will be able to squeeze the pocket. Even better if Kancey stays healthy.
Let’s hope licht wasnt drinking too much at the game today.
3 sacks, may premature extend him now

hilarious
Diaby is a solid B player but again I wouldn't want the Bucs to over pay him given that. Somebody is going to get paid but Licht has become gunshy trading for players or signing big free agents outside of what he drafts.
Nothing wrong with rewarding homegrown talent with a second contract but sometimes you have to stand your ground. My argument has been if you are not going to pursue A grade level players to sign or trade for then yes you have to pay up for the B level talent that is left over.
Licht does not have a good track record of drafting edge rushers. Maybe Baine and Walker change that so the Bucs don't panic and re up Diaby on a mega deal.
I'd have to look back but I think his sacks today are bull rushes or hustle plays. That's great but also not individual game changer. Good part of a team rush.
